QUOTE OF THE DAY: I was There

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I WAS THERE:
You say you will never forget where you were when you
heard the news. On September 11, 2001. Neither will I. I was
on the 110th floor in a smoke filled room with a man who called his wife
to say "Good-Bye." I held his fingers steady as he dialed. I gave him the
peace to say, "Honey, I am not going to make it, but it is OK...I am ready to go."
I was with his wife when he called as she fed breakfast
to their children. I held her up as she tried to understand his words and as
she realized he wasn't coming home that night.
I was in the stairwell of the 23rd floor when a woman cried out to
Me for help. "I have been knocking on the door of your heart for
50 years!" I said. "Of course I will show you the way home - only
believe in Me now."
I was at the base of the building with the Priest ministering to the
injured and devastated souls. I took him home to tend to his Flock in Heaven.
He heard my voice and answered.
I was on all four of those planes, in every seat, with every prayer.
I was with the crew as they were overtaken. I was in the very hearts of the
believers there, comforting and assuring them that their faith has saved them.
I was in Texas, Kansas, London. I was standing next to you when
you heard the terrible news. Did you sense Me?
I want you to know that I saw every face. I knew every name - though
not all know Me. Some met Me for the first time on the 86th floor.
Some sought Me with their last breath.
Some couldn't hear Me calling to them through the smoke and flames;
"Come to Me... this way... take my hand." Some chose, for the final time,
to ignore Me.
But, I was there.
I did not place you in the Tower that day. You may not know why,
but I do. However, if you were there in that explosive moment in time, would
you have reached for Me?
September 11, 2001 was not the end of the journey for you. But
someday your journey will end. And I will be there for you as well. Seek Me
now while I may be found. Then, at any moment, you know you are "ready to go."
I will be in the stairwell of your final moments.
God
(author unknown)
During the next 60 seconds, stop whatever you are doing, and take
thisopportunity. (Literally it is only 1 minute.) All you have to do is the following:
You simply say an "Our Father" for the person that sent you this message:
Our Father who are in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name, Thy
Kingdom Come, Thy Will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us
this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who
trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil..
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever Amen.
Next, you send this message to everyone you know. In a while, more
people will have prayed for you and you would have obtained a lot of people
praying for others.
Next, stop and think and appreciate God's power in your life, for doing
what you know is pleasing to him.
If you are not ashamed to do this, follow the instructions.
Jesus said, "If you are ashamed of me, I will be ashamed of you before My Father"
If you are not ashamed, send this message...only if you believe. "Yes, I love
my God. He is my fountain of Life and My Savior. He Keeps me going day and night.
Without Him, I am no one. But with Him, I can do everything. Christ is my strength."
Send this to everyone you know, and the person that sent it to you. Thanks!!!
GUEST ARTICLE: Building your Website for Success
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Building your Website for Success.

By Paul Barrs.
(c) 2002 Paul Barrs International

It's a strange anomaly.

Most people who set out to start their own Website, no
matter what type, build it for failure, not success.

Crazy isn't it? But true.

They find a Website designer, tell him or here what they
want - and boom - money down the pit.

The saddest part in all this is that they don't even know
that they are destined for failure long before their dreams
shatter and break apart.

Why? The simple truth is this - "most" Website Designers
don't know squat about marketing. But -

Isn't the Web supposed to be that place where you "get on
it" and cash in? Isn't it?

Hmmm.

The past few years have shown us one thing: You're either
for Web-based advertising, or you're against it. Those who
are for it, have faith in the progressive technologies of
the future, those who are against it have taken the time to
sit back, listen and learn - more people fail Online than
those who succeed.

Statistics tell us that within 5 years of start up 90% of
all small businesses will go under.

My personal experience through my own search engine shows
me that an even higher percentage of Websites will do the
same.

Why?

Because they lack the fundamental strategies, marketing and
development to plan ahead, foresee the pitfalls, and
capitalise on gains.

Here is a key secret to Website success. It's "Easy to Do",
it's also "Easy not to Do."  That applies to everything.
It's easy to do a Website marketing plan. It's also easy
not to do one.

It's easy to create a profitable Website, but it's also
easy not to create one.

It's easy to pick up the phone and call a new potential
customer; or reply to en email, but it's also easy not to
do it.

That one thing will determine your success, or measure your
failure.

However, on a brighter side, there are three specific
things that you must focus on doing if your want to develop
a powerhouse and dynamic Website.

Those three things are:

1. Get potential customers to your Website.

2. Get those same people to come back.

3. Get them to refer their friends, family and associates.

Sounds simple doesn't it?

It's easy to do, it's also easy not to do. And if you're
not consciously aware of this marketing reality, you're
probably not doing these three things.

Let's look at them.

1. Get potential customers to your Website.

It does not matter where you are located, the differences
in your product compared to your competition, or if you
have a red, pink or blue roof. Whether you consider
yourself competent in Internet Technology or not makes no
difference. You absolutely must focus 50% of your planning
time on gaining new visitors and customer enquires.
(Initially 80% if your Website is just starting)

Use every method available to you. Utilise every single
resource. Study and learn what it takes to get people to
visit your Website. Visit your competitions Websites.
Survey your visitors. Do what it takes.

I know I'm pointing out the obvious, but if your head is
stuck in pricing package development, or management and
accounting you won't be able to see the trees from the
forest.

Visitors to your Website are your lifeblood. They are your
bread and butter. They represent every reason why you go
Online in the first place - to make money. And it's not
your Web Design firms responsibility alone - you pay the
bills, so the buck stops right in your office.

So get them and get them quick.

2. Get those same people to come back.

It's a proven fact that most people will not buy from you
on their first contact (Or even contact you for that fact).
There are no exceptions to this rule. A prospective
customer must have exposure to your Website an average of 5
times (depending on their readiness and buying time frame)
before they will even contact you.

The world of professional selling tells us that most sales
closes take place on the 7th contact.

What does this tell you?

If you work so hard at getting new people to your Website,
but then not getting them to come back - you're building
for failure.

Don't do it!

Stop right now and look at your sales systems. Do they make
allowances for automatic or semi-automatic follow up? Do
you offer Auto responders from your Website? Do you have
downloadable information that they can access. Do you use
contact management software so that you don't loose track
of potential customers?

Why do you think the Pro's in your industry are the top
income earners? Think about that. They keep in touch with
people.

Either that or they invest some ridiculously high amount of
cash each month to attract first time visitors and work on
the Hit and Miss ratio.

3. Get them to refer their friends, family and associates.

This is the cream of the crop.

When you set out in your Website, you must focus 80% of
your time on getting new contacts. As your Website traffic
develops, you must then change that focus to 80% gaining
referrals.

Referrals are the sweetest prospective customers of all.
They are already pre-qualified. They already want what you
have to offer.

And you don't have to spend a cent getting them!

If your Website is fully operational, you can do this with
a simple, click and refer a friend script. It take only
moments to set up.

But even more - are you ready for the kicker?

You must ASK people for their referrals!

When you've got a great package to offer, it's fantastic.
But there is really no point in working really hard to get
a brand new fresh customer at great expense when all you
have to do is ASK your existing customers and visitors for
a few referrals.

Don't be shy. You ask, and most of them will happily give.

It's that easy. Easy to do, easy not to do.

Can you see the pattern developing here, the difference
between success and failure, those that do and those that
don't?

All these things are easy to do. They are, really. But most
people opt for the easier choice - not to do.

The choice is yours. Build your Website for success with
qualified customer and visitor flow and you will reap the
rewards.

And with that - next month we'll begin looking at specific
principles of Quality traffic. Where to find the, how to
attract them, and how to compel them into coming back to
buy from you.

INTERNET TIP

Create your own banners without a graphics program.

You can use your email program, Microsoft Word, or just about ANY
software that allows you to control the color and size of the fonts.

Just type the text you want in your banner, increase the size however
you like, change the colours of the font to "blue" (most hyperlinks
are blue) and then take a screen capture of the text.

Crop off any unwanted white space (the standard banner ad size is
468 x 60 pixels) inside the screen capture program and save.

You will need screen capture software which you can get here for free...

20 Surprising Uses for Vinegar

by Mary Ellen Pinkham

Do you think of white vinegar simply as a salad dressing ingredient?
This household staple, which is really a mild acid (acetic acid), can
be used for many cleaning, deodorizing and other jobs. Here are only a
few examples:

1. Loosen a rusted screw or a rusted lock. Pour some vinegar on or
into the area.

2. Tenderize meat. A strong vinegar and water marinade will make meat
tender in just a few minutes.

3. Soften a hard paint brush. Boil it in vinegar, or soak it in very
hot vinegar, then wash in soapy water.

4. Prevent a cat from digging in plants. Add some vinegar to the
misting water.

5. Keep cheese from molding. Wrap it in a vinegar-soaked cloth, then
place in a sealed container.

6. Prevent paint peeling off cement floors. First "paint" the floor
with white vinegar. Once it's dry, apply the paint. (Same trick
works with galvanized metal.)

7. Remove soapy gunk around faucets. Soak a paper towel in white vinegar,
squeeze it out, wrap it around the chrome for 10 minutes, then wipe dry.

8. Keep fruit flies away. Pour 1/2 inch of cider vinegar in the bottom of
a small jar and punch a dozen or so holes in the lid (using an ice pick).
The vinegar attracts the flies through the holes and they can't get out.
Or just set out a small dish with the vinegar plus a few drops of dish
detergent; it attracts, then drowns them.

9. Remove the odor of cigarette smoke. Leave bowls of vinegar around the room.
Or saturate a towel with vinegar, wave it all around the room.

10. Clean a slimy sponge or loofah. Soak it in a strong solution of vinegar
and water for a day, then rinse several times in cold water. Let dry in
the sun.

11. Repel fleas. Add about 1 cc of vinegar per 2 pounds of dog's body weight
to the dog's food (not water) each day and you'll help him repel fleas.
For a 60-pound dog, that's 2 tablespoons of vinegar.

12. Remove decals. Sponge distilled vinegar on any decals that stubbornly
resist removal. After a few minutes, you should be able to scrape
them off. (Use the edge of an old credit card to avoid scratching any
surface.)

13. Soften jeans. Add a cup of vinegar to the last rinse.

14. Clean patio furniture cushions. Scrub with a stiff brush dipped in
white vinegar.

15. Remove dried paint. Heat white vinegar until it's lukewarm and apply with
a plastic scrubbing pad.

16. Repel ants. Wash counters with vinegar.

17. Remove wallpaper. Pour a cup of white vinegar into 2 gallons of hot
water, then transfer that into a spray bottle. Apply to wallpaper until
very wet. Let stand about 15 minutes or until wallpaper is loose.

18. Clean copper, bronze, brass, dishes, pots, pans, skillets, glasses,
windows. Mix with salt, rub, and rinse the item afterwards.

19. Make "buttermilk" for baking. Add two tablespoons of vinegar to a
cup of skim or 1 percent milk; let mixture stand five minutes.

20. Rinse clothes thoroughly. Add a cup of white vinegar to the last rinse
water and the mild acid will neutralize the alkalis in soaps and detergents.

21. And for a seasonal treat, try cutting up sweet strawberries and drizzling
them with balsamic vinegar. You're in for a surprise!

Septic Tank Tip An inexpensive way to keep your septic system working properly, is to take
one packet of dry yeast and a box of brown sugar and pour this down your
toilet about every 3-4 months. I learned about this many years ago, and
during the 12 years I'd been doing this, I never had a problem with the
septic system.

Seems the yeast and brown sugar put beneficial bacteria back into your
system, that may have been diminished through the use of chemical cleaners &
etc.

GUEST ARTICLE: Realistic Goals and How to Set Them

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
By Chuck and Sue DeFiore
So many people want to start a business today and be rich
tomorrow. Sorry, people it doesn't happen that way. If it
did, everyone would do it. There is no free lunch...it
takes hard work, determination and realistic goal setting.
Think about the businesses you have worked at, look at the
businesses in your community. I mean really look. When you
go to the dry cleaners, how many other people are there
also. Think about what it takes for that dry cleaner to
open every day. How many people he needs to come in with
their dry cleaning in order to make a profit. OK, dry
cleaning doesn't excite you. How about that specialty shop
you want to open! You want to open a retail store that
caters to people that buy Hummels, knick knacs, bric-a-
brac. Will you only handle certain types? How many will you
order of each type? What are the best sellers? How many
will you have to sell to make money for yourself, and to
also keep that shop open, or will you sell them by mail
order only from your home?
Want to do business on the web? The same principles apply.
How many visitors to your web site do you need to make a
sale? How do you get them to visit? How do you get them to
stay? You get the idea. You need goals in order to measure
any progress in your business.
Realistic goals come from a well thought out mission
statement, which leads to a very good business plan, which
leads to a well thought out marketing strategy. You should
have short and long term goals. The short term goals will
cover the upcoming 6 months to 2 years. Your long term
goals will go further out, let's say over the next five
years. Remember, you need to give a business at least two
years in order to give it a real chance. Not all businesses
make a gigantic profit immediately.
Let's say you want to start a house cleaning business.
Your initial plan is to work it yourself, and add
independent contractors as needed. You decide on your
mission statement, you make up your business plan. You want
to make $500 per week, working six days per week, 10 hour
days. Your marketing will include advertising in your local
paper, flyers, and mailers. You can clean 3
houses/apartments per day at $25-$50. You also have to
decide your price points, what will you charge for a 1
bedroom, 2 bedroom, or a house with 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms,
etc. After all this is done you can better determine how
many of each type you will need each week to meet you goal
of $500 per week. These are your short term realistic
goals. Your long term goals are to eventually hire
independent contractors to do the work. Obviously, the more
clients you market for, the more independent contractors
you need, but also the more income you can generate. You
will make up long term goals for the third, fourth, and
fifth years of how many independent contractors you want to
add and how many clients you want. Your marketing plan will
reflect what you need to do to get the numbers you are
projecting.
Realistic goals can and must be set, you just need a plan.
For example, in Lease Purchasing, as in any other business,
goal setting is of paramount importance. You need to follow
a plan, a plan for success. Short term goals and long term
goals are part of this plan. Like many franchise businesses
that have an outline for their franchisees to follow for a
successful business, the same should be done in lease
purchasing.
To set these realistic goals and to obtain a good
foundation, you need a program that provides you with
support in the start up and running of your business. Using
our own Lease Purchase Coaching Program as an example, we
schedule consultations that cover all students need to know
to get started. We role play with students and have
specific assignments giving them certain things to do, and
certain goals to meet. If they follow the program, and do
their deals, they will be able to run their own successful
business. We work with our students to accomplish the above
and to help them set realistic goals.
An example of goals in Lease Purchasing is the number of
deals you want to do, and how many calls or contacts you
need to make to do that number of deals. How many
consultations do you want to do, again, how many contacts
you make will determine how many you get. Lease Purchasing
like many other businesses is a numbers game. Make so many
contacts, and/or calls and get so many deals. However, in
order to do this, you have to make some goal making
decisions and set realistic goals, not farfetched ones.
Making a million dollars by the end of six months is not a
realistic goal. Making so many calls per day, per week,
per month is, and then from the number of calls/contacts
you make, realize you are going to get so many responses,
and from those responses make so many deals. A realistic
income working full time the first year is $50,000 to
$75,000.
Following a proven method is of the utmost importance. You
don't hear of many Burger King or Taco Bell franchises
failing. Why, because they follow the corporate plan. The
company will tell them there are no short cuts. If they
want to succeed, they need to follow the company's proven
formula.
The people who fail in business are usually those who
don't listen; don't want to follow a proven program; want
to take short cuts; and who don't set realistic goals.
So remember, no matter what your business is, if you want
to succeed you need to set goals for yourself ... and make
them realistic.
GARDENING:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Its the middle of summer and your vegetables are coming in quicker than you can pick
them. All your hard work is really showing off. Your neighbors come over and pat you on
your back, beg for your secret. There is just one catch, all your feathered and furry neighbors
are watching too. The battle is on. Who is going to get the most bites? Well, if you give them
so HOT STUFF, you might be the winner.

Hot Foot Spray

1 tbsp. of mustard (hotter the better)
1 qt. of warm water

Mix until mustard has dissolved. Lightly mist over vegetable plants at first sign of trouble.
If they are well in to the summer you may have to be more diligent in persuading them to leave.

At the beginning of summer your roses looked fresh. The leaves were out and had a healthly glow.
You just knew they were going to be all right this year, but yet again, they are looking like the last root
may give way this year. Dull leaves just hanging there. Give them a little energy boost. Those bananas
are way past bread stage. You thought you'ld get around to it, but time just got away from you. Don't
throw them out with the garbage, work them into the soil around the base of the plants. The potassium
(skin and fruit) will revive them.

How many of you go to feed the dog or cat outside and you have to knock off the slugs. To mis-grab
the bowl and touch one of the slimy creatures makes your skin crawl. Make your own Slug Stopping Juice.
You will need: vinegar and water. Mix a half and half solution up in a spray bottle. When dark comes just
make a spraying trip around the house. Or you may seek the creatures out and zap them with a little spritz.

RECIPES

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How To Can Butter
Use only highest quality butter ("Land O Lakes" or equivalent).
Heat jelly jars in 250 degree oven for 20 minutes, without rings or seals.
While jars heat, melt butter slowly until it comes to a boil. Reduce heat,
cover and simmer for 5 minutes. Pour melted butter carefully into heated jars,
being careful not to get any butter on rim of jar. Add lid and ring and close
securely. They will seal as they cool. Shake jars a few times during cooling
to prevent separation, although this step is optional.
Make your Own Recipe Card
How many of ya'll out there are cooks? What does your cook stash look like?
Are the recipes crumpled, wadded from being pushed down in the bottom
of your over-filled card box? Can you not "read" an old recipe that was scribbled
down at the last family reunion of last year? If you clip recipes out of magazines
and newspapers, you know exactly what I am talking about. Well, sitting here
looking just "one" of those favorites, it hit me. Protect this and it is so easy.
Took all of two minutes.
The answer: Laminate THEM!
No, you don't need a machine. You should be able to find the any home office
supply store, Wal-Mart, or the like.
Be sure to leave at least 1/4 inch around the edges. Another idea, if most of your
recipes are newspaper or magazine clippings, you may want to key them into
a recipe card program.
Now, on to today's HOT Stuff! Happy Cooking!!!
Rotel Potatoes
by Dee McDonald
of LaPorte, TX
Ingredients:
1 - 10oz. can of Rotes tomatoes
1 - 10 3/4 oz can cream of mushroom soup
1 - 10 3/4 oz can cheddar cheese soup
1/2 - soup can of water
1 - Tablespoon onion flakes or fresh chopped onion
10 to 12 small pototoes, peeled and thinly sliced
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a bowl, mix Rotel tomatoes, cheddar cheese soup,
cream of mushroom soup, water, onion, salt and pepper to taste. Pour mixture over
potatoes in a greased baking dish. Place margarine slices on top and bake for one hour
or until potatoes are soft when stuck with fork.
Chocolate Cherry Cookies
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 egg
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
48 undrained maraschino cherries
(about a 10 oz jar)
1-6 oz pack semisweet chocolate pieces
1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
In a medium bowl combine flour and cocoa
powder. Set aside. In a large mixing bowl
beat butter with an electric mixer on
medium speed for 30 seconds.
Add sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking
soda. Beat until well mixed. Add egg and
vanilla and beat well. Gradually beat in
dry mixture.
Shape dough into 1 inch balls: place on
un greased cookie sheets. Press down
center of each ball with thumb.
Drain cherries, reserving juice. Place one
cherry in the center of each cookie.
For frosting, in a small saucepan combine
chocolate pieces and sweetened condensed
milk. Heat and stir over medium heat until
chocolate is melted. Stir in 4 teaspoons
of reserved cherry juice.
Spoon about 1 teaspoon frosting over each
cherry, spreading to cover cherry.
If necessary frosting may be thinned with
additional cherry juice.
Bake in 350 degree oven about 10 minutes
or until edges are firm. Transfer to wire
racks and let cool.
Getting Organized
Cleaning
http://parent.lifetips.com
Bedroom Hanger Recycle your old towel rack by attaching it to the footboard of your childīs bed. Itīs a handy place
for your kids to hang their clothes, especially if they are too small to reach their closet rod.
Car Protectors
To help keep the seats in your car looking like new, try this tip. Vinyl tablecloths with flannel backing make
great waterproof seat protectors. Simply place the tablecloth flannel side up, and you have a cozy cover
that is comfy to sit on.
Cleaning Bath Toys
To clean you childīs bath toys and prevent mildew build up, put them in a net laundry bag. Fill the tub
halfway with water and add some bleach. Place the toys in the bag, and let them sit for about an hour. Rinse
the toy bag off with water. When you are finished, you will have both clean toys and a clean bathtub.
Keep Clutter Under Control
To organize a messy medicine cabinet, diaper-wipe containers can be a life-saver. Categorize your items,
(such as first-aid, make-up, pain relievers, etc.) and put them in their own containers. You will save time by
not having to search for what you need, and nothing will get lost behind a bottle or jar.
Leave īem at the Doorstep
Keep a large Rubbermaid container at the front door. When the kids come in from outside, have them put
their shoes directly into it. You will always know where the shoes are, and the floors will stay cleaner too.
No More Drips!
To prevent ice cream drips when using sugar cones, stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of the cone.
The marshmallow will absorb the drips, and your kids will love to eat it at the end.
Stop Toilet Paper Mess
To stop young kids from playing with toilet paper and unrolling an entire roll, there is a simple, free alternative
to the commercial products sold. Just place a rubber band around the roll. Your child can spin the roll until her
heartīs content, and all the adults need to do is move the band aside to get some paper.
Laundry
Bathing Suit Preservation
To keep your bathing suits soft and supple, wash them with hair shampoo after use. Rinse well, and hang to
dry. The shampoo will clean them, but will not dry them out excessively. This will greatly extend the life of
your bathing suit.
Dryer Trash
To keep dryer lint and trash from pockets out of your way, use a magnet to attach a plastic shopping bag to
the side of your dryer. This way you have a handy trash bag when you are doing laundry.
Goodbye Stains - Hello Artwork
When my kids T-shirts become stained with impossible to remove stains, rather than throw the clothes away
I let the kids paint them with fabric paint. They love wearing their creations and have a great time making them.
No more missing socks!
Use rings from milk jugs as sock holders, to keep pairs together for laundering.
Sorting Laundry
To help teach kids sorting skills, and to keep the laundry under control, try using three hampers or containers.
Together with your kids, cut out pictures or label containers - one for whites, one for darks, one for light-colored
Stain Prevention
To prevent your childrenīs clothing from becoming stained, and to keep it looking like new, you can treat the
fabric with Scotchguard. You can purchase a can in most department stores. Simply spray the clothing before
washing the first time, allow to dry, and launder as usual. In the future, you will be amazed at what you can simply
wipe off your childrenīs clothes.
My Cat Won't Use The Litter box Anymore
by Monica Webb, Forum Moderator - DoItYourself.com/pets
http://doityourself.com/pets/litterbox.ht
Q. My cat refuses to use the litter box anymore. Any ideas why and how can I get her to use it again?
Here are a few suggestions to your litter box problems:
Provide a box for each cat
Change litter daily
Provide constant access to a box
Go back to previously used brand of litter and/or
Discontinue new disinfectant
Move box to where it was previously used
Eliminate new or frightening noise near litter box
Move food and water away from litter box
If cat is only going in one spot, put the litter box at the exact location and gradually move it back to where
you want it at the rate of one foot per day If there are several places, try putting dishes of cat food in those
areas to discourage further elimination there Experiment with different textures of litter (cats prefer sandy litter)
Use a covered litter box for cats that stand in box but eliminate outside of it
Another important thing to consider is that there may be a medical reason. Check with your vet. I work for
a vet and know that often (though not always) there is a medical problem behind this.
Is this your only cat? Or do you have 1-2 other cats using the same litter box? Some cats stop using it
because the other cats no longer cover their "stuff". If so simply get another litter box, so that they each had
their own. It's also possible that your cat does not like the litter you are using, or she feels it is too dirty to use.
Cat's get picky like that when they get older.
Not to plug someone's product but...our Siamese decided one day that she would not use the litter box
anymore. Turned out that if I was slow in getting the waste scooped out she figured her precious feet were not
going to step into it. To make a long story short, I bought a self cleaning litter box. The upfront price for this
thing is ridiculous ($100.00 for baseline noisy model, $200.00 for top of the line) but in the end I was able to
justify it because she had no problem what so ever after I brought it home!!
Also you can go to a janitorial supply for a uric acid eradicator. It contains an enzyme that actually eats the acid
in the urine and leaves behind a pleasant smell. All you have to do is fill a spray bottle and saturate the area and
keep it wet for 2 or three hours and the smell will be gone for good.
It might be the state of cleanliness of the litter box. I started using "Litter Pearls" - little absorbent clear beads.
Also ridiculously expensive - $12.95 a bag, although I just ordered them online at Petsmart.com for $7.95, and
they are great. No smell ever (except the gas right after they poop). Scoop the solid stuff out, and the urine gets
absorbed and there is no smell, and no sand on the floor (occasionally the little pearls get on the floor, but they
are much more pleasant to step on than the sand!) They advertise that you use one bag for one month with one cat;
we have two cats and use 2 bags in a big litter box, and it lasts about 2 weeks. Anyway, just thought I'd put my two
cents' worth (or two cats' worth!) in!
I got the Littermaid litter box about a month ago as one of my 3 cats was going outside the litter box. Yes, we have
a second litter box and I was scooping both twice a day but this just wasn't enough. I guess I have the $100 noisy
version but the noise isn't that bad and with the peace of mind I've gotten made the cost worth it for me.
There are so many possible reasons your cat is doing that - could be emotional too. But when I had that problem, I
went out and bought one of those large plastic sweater storage containers that you keep under the bed...I filled it
with litter and he started using it. I guess he just felt the other one was too small for him to dig around in. You could
try it - they are very inexpensive.
HERB TIPS
Everyone knows that Garlic is good for you, but how can you get the benefits from it without
having to move to a deserted land. The following recipe may help you consume some as a "snack."
Marinated Garlic
Enough garlic to fill a glass jar 2/3 full.
Equal parts of balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, and honey.
Heat slowly until honey liquefies.
Pour mixture into jar, making sure garlic is covered by 1 inch.
Let cool to room temp and place in refrigerator for two weeks.
The garlic can then be eaten as a snack, dressings, soups, vegetables, or stir fried rice.
HEALTH TIPS: 5 Overlooked Ways To Get In Shape By Summer!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

5 Overlooked Ways To Get In Shape By Summer!

1. DRINK MORE WATER.

We have heard it a thousand times. Here's a thousand
and one. Overweight people need more water than
smaller people. Larger people have a larger metabolic load.
Here's a quick way to determine how much water to
drink daily. Take your current weight (lbs) and
divide by 2. This will give you the number of ounces of
water needed daily. Convert the number of ounces of
water into glasses of water.

1cup or glass=8 ounces.

Example:  You weight 200 pound
Your weight 200/2=100 ounces

Remember 1cup or glass=8 ounces
so, divide 100/8=12.5 glasses.

I know what you are thinking, how can I get all of that
water into my system?  Or you maybe telling yourself,
"I don't like the taste of water."

I have solutions to both of those problems. Become
a water sipper. Have a bottle, glass, or cup of water
with you at times; at home, in the car on your desk
at work. Request it when you're at a friend's house,
Fast food restaurants or order it with your meals
when you eat out (you'll save a $1 or $2).

If you do not like the taste of tap water or any water for
that matter. Flavored waters offer a solution
(not sweetened), sparkling water, herbal teas or mineral
water. Or spice up the taste at home by adding a slice of
lemon, lime or orange or Aloe Vera juice. Drink your
water! Water gives you a feeling of fullness and flush
out the sodium that help your body retain water.

2.  EAT BREAKFAST

Not a new idea, but is worth being reminded of.
According to "Woman's World" magazine,
eating breakfast reduces hunger by 30%.
Stay away from the sugar loaded donuts,
cereals and pastries. These foods will be digested
quickly, leaving you feeling hungry. Good substitutes
would be foods high in fiber, such as, whole grain
breads and cereals (oatmeal, grits, muffins)
vegetables and fruits or a protein shake or bar.

Fiber absorbs fluid and expands, which leaves you feeling full.

3. DO QUICKIE WORKOUTS.

Do not plan to do a 30 minute workout, if you only
have 10 mins to spare at a given time.

Example: If you plan to walk 30 minutes per day.
Walk 10 mins before work; 10 mins at lunch; and
10 mins in the evening. Get the idea! If you would
just walk briskly 10 mins for 12 or 15 times a week
you will start losing weight. Or try jumping rope or
climbing stairs for short periods of time. You will
still burn calories.

4. REDUCE FOOD PORTION SIZES.

We are accustom to eating large portions. We
rave about the large portions that some restaurants
serve. Eating more than you need and use will pack
on extra pounds which causes other ailments. It is
okay to rave, but don't indulge yourself. If you can't
bring yourself to leave it on the plate, ask for
a "doggie bag." And guess what? You'll have leftovers
for the next day.

Below are some estimates for portion sizes found
in "Family Circle Weight Loss" magazine.

*3 or 4 ounces of cooked meat or fish = a deck of cards

*l cup cooked vegetables= a baseball

*1 ounce bread= 1 slice sandwich size

*1 ounce cheese= wine cork

5. EAT ALL DAY LONG.

* Remember to eat breakfast. This is the first meal of
the day and sets the tone for the rest of the day.
Matter of fact, it starts your metabolism and stabilizes
your energy level for the day.

*It is suggested that you do not skip a meal. If you skip
a meal you will have a tendency to overeat at the
next meal.

*Space your meals 3 or 4 hours apart.

Example: breakfast 7am; snack 10am, etc.,
you get the idea. Remember eat foods high in
sugars, salt and oils sparingly. Fruits, pretzels,
lightly butter or unsalted popcorn, peanuts,
crackers or protein bars (check label for sugar content)
make excellent snacks.
