“How to Earn Both Immediate and Long-Term Profits in 3 Easy Steps That ANYONE Can Follow!” by Jimmy D. Brown FOREWORD Before we launch into today’s lesson and officially begin this 7-day eCourse, there are a few things that I want to point out to you. ***This eCourse was developed specifically for Profits Vault Monthly members. While the information contained in this course is written with PVM members in mind, it can be applied to ANYONE. That means YOU. :o) ***There are several lessons in this eCourse. Lessons #5, 6, and 7 are THE most important lessons of the series. This is intentional. There are waaaaay too many quitters on the web today. If you want the full picture with all the best information, then you’re going to have to stick to it and see the course all the way through. Trust me, you’ll thank me later. :o) ***Today’s lesson is a foundation that we will build on throughout the week and a general overview of what you need to succeed online. Having said that, let’s get at it… Everything we’re going to talk about in this lesson hinges in some way on these three steps. They aren’t complicated. In fact, they are very simple… …IF you use them correctly. Notice that “if” statement there. There are MANY people doing what I am about to share with you… …but VERY FEW are doing it correctly. And VERY FEW are really earning any significant income. Let me share this with you. I’ll make you a bold promise right now. IF you read all 7 lessons in this series and IF you apply exactly what I tell you in these lessons, then I GUARANTEE you will earn a significant income online. You’ve got my promise on that. It’s in writing. Put me to the test on this and see if I’m not 100% correct. How about that for a challenge? So, what are those three steps. Glad you asked. Step 1 -----> Locate fresh, high-quality products to sell online. Obviously, if you want to earn profits, you’ve got to sell something. While there are many different items being sold online, information products are among the best-sellers. Quickly, let me cover three ways that you can locate fresh, high-quality products to sell online. (a) Affiliate programs. With an affiliate program, you simple promote an assigned affiliate link and earn a commission of any sales generated through your efforts. An affiliate program is also known as a reseller program. The best place to learn about affiliate marketing is a free site by one of the most successful affiliate marketers of them all, Allan Gardyne. For virtually everything you need to know about affiliate programs, visit http://www.associateprograms.com Additionally, there is a wonderful new course available for affiliates, “How to Outsell Other Resellers and Become a SUPER Affiliate.” More information on this new affiliate manual is available at http://www.profitsvault.com/monthly/outsell/ Affiliate programs are great, but it is VERY difficult for the average person to earn any substantial income with them. I personally recommend that you promote affiliate programs as secondary income, but not your main source of income. We’ll talk more about how to successfully use affiliate programs in the coming lessons. This is just an introduction to them here. (b) Original products. Of course, another way to locate fresh, high-quality products to sell online is to create your own. At first, you might think “but I’m not a writer.” That’s a natural response for most folks, and you may be write, I mean you may be right. :o) But, the good news is “you don’t have to be a writer.” There are many tools and resources available to help you create an information product to sell online even if you don’t have any particular writing skills. You can conduct interviews, compile other people’s articles (with their permission of course) create tutorials, etc. My good friend Jim Edwards created a wonderful eBook that actually shows you how to create an eBook you can sell online in only 7 days. For more information, visit http://www.profitsvault.com/7dayebook.html We won’t spend a lot of time talking about creating your own products, because there is a MUCH easier way to profit online and that is with… (c) Reprint rights. Now, when I say “reprint rights” it used to mean something. It used to mean a high-ticket product that you purchased a license to sell and keep every penny you earn for yourself. It seems like today it means “a huge collection of eBooks that no one reads and you can generally find for free if you look around long enough.” And this is supposed to be an eBusiness that you’ll make a fortune selling? I don’t think so. I’d like you to go to favorite search engine and do a search for “reprint rights” or “resell rights.” Let me know what you find. Actually, you don’t have to tell me. I already know. What you’ll find is listing after listing of “ebook collections.” It’s a sad fact that these collections have become what those 5,000 “money-making reports” of the past have become… …a bunch of junk that no one reads, but thinks they’re going to retire on. I don’t mean any disrespect to the creators of these packages. Many of them work very hard at putting these collections together. The problem is that there are a gazillion other people (I counted!) doing the same thing. Check that search engine. See how many listings there are. How are you going to compete with that? The answer is, for most folks, you can’t. And yet, reprint rights ARE the answer. IF you do it correctly. Sound familiar? What you need is NOT a huge collection of eBooks that everyone else seems to be hocking, but rather a FRESH, new product you can sell each month. That’s what the member’s of Profits Vault Monthly receive every single month. They receive a high-quality eBook written by one of the most respected and well known web marketing gurus in the world. And they receive a ready-made sales letter, professionally designed webpage and complete marketing instructions for each new product. http://www.reprintrights4u.com/profitsvaultmonthly Now, it doesn’t really matter WHAT you promote or WHERE you obtain your product at, the important thing is that you find FRESH, HIGH-QUALITY products to sell online. On day five of this eCourse, I am going to show you a secret tactic that I use to automatically market my favorite affiliate programs, reprint rights products and products I created myself without lifting a single finger. And the important thing is that I am going to show YOU how to do it too. Seriously, I’m going to show you how to AUTOMATICALLY (I mean it will do all of the work for you!) promote all of your favorite affiliate programs, any product you buy reprint rights to and any product you create yourself SIMULTANEOUSLY without doing a bit of work to do it. Stay tuned for lesson 5 for an in-depth look at that technique. Step 2 -----> Build an opt-in mailing list that is YOURS to keep. I’m not going to cover much of this today. We’ll be talking about this in greater detail in lesson 2 tomorrow. I just wanted to introduce you to this step today because it IS critical that you build your own mailing list. It has been long said, “the fortune is in the list!” And it has been well said at that. I earn *literally* over $10,000 every month just from ONE of my email mailing lists. And that particular list only has a few thousand subscribers. Here’s the big key with a LIST… …you can sell to it over and over again… ---------------------- Sidebar ---------------------- While we will cover some great list-building ideas in tomorrow’s lesson, you may want to get a headstart by looking at Profit Pulling Newsletters, the best course available online for building and profiting from your own optin mailing list. http://www.123webmarketing.com/profitpulling/3/ ------------------------------------------------------ Step 3 -----> Sell, sell, sell and then sell some more! We’ll be talking about this at length in an upcoming lesson as well. What is so wonderful about a list is the fact that it isn’t a ONE-TIME shot. You can use your email mailing list over and over and over again. As your list grows, so will your profits. With a mailing list you are able to send out multiple mailings each month to promote affiliate programs, your own products, free reports and eBooks to gather new leads, reprint rights, etc. And because a mailing list is “ready-to-go” at any time you need it, you can cash in one those opportunities that come along before the whole world gets wind of it. Let me give you an example that just happened yesterday. I received a short email letting me know that Armand Morin had just released a new software product, Popup Generator 1.0, with MASTER reprint rights for under $35.00. http://www.123webmarketing.com/popupgenerator/ This was on a Friday afternoon. I knew that by Monday quite a few people would know about it. So, what did I do? You probably guessed it correctly…I sent a mailing to my list. I bought the reprint rights, uploaded the ready-made webpage that came with it, setup my order links and sent out a mailing to my list. The entire process from the time I received the email to the time I sent out my own mailing was less than 30 minutes. I made $1,000 in just a few hours. Orders continue to come it at the time I am writing this training lesson. See how important having that mailing list is? You need products to market and you need someone to market them to. And I am going to show you how to do both of those things and so much more in the coming six lessons. Today’s lesson was just to get you warmed up. :o) Tomorrow, we’ll cover… “The #1 Without Question, WORST Thing You Can Do Online That Will Cost You THOUSANDS Of Dollars In Profits This Year Alone.” HINT: Almost every reseller in any given affiliate program is making this mistake. Until then, God bless and best wishes, Jimmy D. Brown http://www.reprintrights4u.com/profitsvaultmonthly _____________________________________________________________ Copyright 2002 © Jimmy D. Brown. Tutorial "How To Get A Gallon Into A Pint Pot" Have you recently downloaded something to your Desktop, only to find that there's no Icon appearing on your screen? Maybe there's so many icons on there, that it can't elbow its way into view. Perhaps your desktop is filled to overflowing with icons so that many of them have disappeared off the screen? So how do you create more space? You can either stop downloading stuff or ... Reduce the size of your Icons, and reduce the space between them! Like this ... Right click on an empty space on your Desktop. Left click 'Properties'. Left click 'Appearance' tab. Left click 'Item' drop down box. Left click 'Icon'. Reduce the size in the 'Size' box. Click OK. Done! If you want even more room you can reduce the amount of space between them and get more icons per inch for your money. Go to the 'Item' drop down box again, and open it. Left Click on 'Icon Spacing Horizontal' Reduce the space needed in the 'Size' box Repeat the procedure with 'Icon Spacing Vertical'. Know Your Downloads
If you download a lot of programs from the Internet and want to know quickly the contents of the .zip or .exe files say, six months later, then create a text file in 'Notepad' for each download and name it the same name as the downloaded file but with the .txt extension. In it write a short description of the file and the date. Better still, copy the description from the page you were downloading from and paste it into the text file. Place all the files in the same 'Download' folder. By sorting the files by name in windows explorer, you will find each .txt file next to its corresponding .zip or .exe file and you can read it by simply double clicking on it. To avoid starting 'Notepad' and dragging files from folder to folder, the next time you make a download open any .txt file from the 'Download' folder, replace the description in it with the new one and save the file (click 'File' and 'Save as') with the new name. Your new .txt file will be added to the same 'Download' folder and the old .txt file will still be there. By Mark Friedman |

Tips for Taking Great Photos at Night by Patty Hankins & Bill Lawrence Night photography can be some of the most dramatic photography you can do - it can also be one of the harder types of photography to learn. Most photographers have a pile of lousy night photographs hidden away - they're out of focus, the exposure is wrong, the wrong part of the image is highlighted, etc. With this article, we'll try to provide you with some tips on taking great photographs at night - based in large part on our experiences taking bad night photographs. Before you leave home: 1. Know where you're planning on taking your photographs. Take some time to plan out parking, driving routes, etc in advance. Don't forget, you'll be going at least one direction in the dark. 2. Know when and where the sun is setting or the moon is rising if you what to include them in your photos. We use a program called Ephemeris to figure out when and where the sun and moon are rising and setting. For a review of Ephemeris - see our article on the program in the newsletter archives at http://www.hankinslawrenceimages.com. 3. Check the weather forecast. That way you'll know if you need to dress for cooler weather after dark, and how much cloud cover to expect (not that the the weather report helped us on the latter). It is easy to get cold standing around waiting for the right photographic opportunity after the sun has gone down. 4. Use bug spray in the appropriate seasons. If you're going to be anywhere near water or in the woods, apply a heavy application of bug-spray. You're likely to be sitting or standing for a while in the same place, no point in making yourself an extra attractive meal for the local bugs. What to take with you: 5. Bring (and use) a tripod. It's not uncommon to have exposures of a second or more during night photography. With anything over 1/30 of a second, you really should use a tripod to ensure that camera shake doesn't affect your photo. Take a look at the web-based version of this article (http://www.hankinslawrenceimages.com/newsletter/articles/nightphoto.htm) to see what a difference a tripod makes. 6. Bring a bubble level. Bubble levels let you know if your camera is level, so you don't have the annoying problem of images running down hill in your pictures. See our article on bubble levels in the newsletter archives for more information. 7. Bring a cable release for your camera. If your camera allows for a cable release for remote operation of the shutter button, use it. On long exposures, the camera shake caused by pushing down the shutter button on your camera can sometimes be seen in your photos. If you don't have a cable or other remote release for your camera, use the self-timer when possible. 8. Bring your cell phone. Remember, you're going to be out in the dark, having a cell phone with you for emergencies is only common sense. If you're going out with another photographer, it helps if you both have phones with you. That way - if you get separated, it's much easier to find one another in the dark. Bill and I learned this lesson the hard way - we were taking photos at an event, it got dark, and we spent at least half an hour wandering around looking for one another in the dark before we reconnected. 9. Bring a flashlight. A pocket flash light is a great tool to have when you're doing photography. Not only can it light up your camera dials so you can see how your camera is set, it can also help light the path on the way back to the car. For more information on the pocket flash lights we use, see your article on the topic in our newsletter archives. Setting your camera: The more control you have over the settings on your camera, the more likely you are to be able to take good night photos. If camera only has automatic settings, you may have some real challenges convincing it to let you take your photos. 10. Turn off the flash. Most on-camera flashes only light up an area five to six feet in front of the camera. What happens at night, is that it may overexpose anything in the foreground, and underexpose the main subject of the photo. 11. Use higher speed film or set the ISO higher on your digital camera if you need a faster shutter speed. The higher the ISO/ASA, the shorter the exposures you can get away with. If your exposure is planned at ISO 100 for 2 seconds at F8.0 - using ISO 400, you can do a 1/2 second exposure at the same F8.0. Some digital cameras show higher than usual noise levels for long exposures - it is worth checking if your camera has a long exposure noise reduction feature. 12. Understand what your camera's light metering system will do - or meter separately and use manual settings on your camera. Modern consumer cameras, particularly the higher level ones, tend to have sophisticated metering systems but night time photography involves tricky lighting situations, with very bright and dark areas in the same photo. Understanding what your light meter is making its readings from, and the type of exposure you are likely to get, will ensure properly exposed photos. If you're not getting the photos you want with the automatic metering, take control by either setting the camera manually or using exposure compensation. If you have a digital camera with a histogram function, use this to help understand how well your metering is working. 13. Bracket your photos. If your camera lets you bracket shots automatically, you definitely should turn the feature on at night. My normal setting is to shoot the exposure I've set, then bracket the shot with a ½ shutter speed step up, and then a ½ shutter speed step down. For example, if my exposure is set at F8.0 for 1/20 if a second, I'll shoot that shot, then one at F8.0 for 1/30 of a second and one at F8.0 for 1/15 of a second. This increases my chances of getting the shot that I really want. 14. Using manual focus may help save time. Chances are, you're going to shoot multiple exposures of the same shot. So use the auto focus feature on your camera to set the first shot, then without changing the focus, switch to manual focus. That way, if your camera has trouble focusing in the dark, it won't have to keep searching for a focus lock. The nice thing about photographing monuments and buildings is that they don't move - so once the lens is focused, you don't have to keep refocusing it with every shot. You should check every now and then, however, to make sure that you have not bumped the lens and changed the focus. 15. Use the mirror lockup function. If your camera allows you to lock the mirror in place, do so. Believe it or not, on some long exposures, the internal workings of the camera cause enough vibration to make camera shake visible in the photo. Locking the mirror into place reduces the chances of camera shake being introduced in this way. Taking the pictures 16. Take lots of photos. Be sure to take a lot of photos when you're doing night photography, and try them at different exposures. Somewhere in the group, there may well be a spectacular photo, that was the result of a experimental combination of shutter speed and aperture. Remember, film is cheap, and for digital camera users, there is always the trash can for unwanted images. 17. Try some photos before the night is pitch black. Sometimes having some color left in the sky can add to the photo. Check out the example photos against the evening sky and night sky on our online version of the article. 18. Review your shots. If you are using a digital camera, take advantage of the instant feedback to see if you are recording what you want to. Also, if your camera has a histogram function, be sure to check it periodically to make sure you aren't underexposing or overexposing parts of your image. 18. Have fun! I've got a quick question for you... How much do you make online? Frank Garon and Lee Benson pulled in exactly $44,917.35 in June 2003 - supposedly, one of the worst months for doing business on the 'net. But, statistics don't affect or worry them. The New Family Dinner: Different Ways to Come Together By Carol McD. Wallace So it's not home-cooked, served at 6:00 p.m. sharp, or even possible seven nights a week. Today's families are bucking tradition and finding new ways to bond over the evening meal. Four or five nights a week, my husband and I sit down to dinner with our two sons, Will, 12, and Tim, 9. At this age, the boys are good company, and I know they enjoy these meals as much as Rick and I do, because they complain when we miss a few nights. But family dinner wasn't always like this. In fact, when the children were small, we called it "dining hell." We endured whining, spilling, and endless struggles to keep restless toddlers at the table long enough to eat something. We weathered complaints about unacceptable food and whose leg was kicking whose chair. But as bad as it often was, I always knew it was worth it. In fact, experts confirm that sharing regular meals as a family brings a banquet of benefits. Ben Silliman, Ph.D., a family-life specialist at the University of Wyoming's Cooperative Extension Service, says, "Children of all ages need to know that parents are accessible to them. One of the big messages that family dinner sends is 'You're important enough for me to spend this time with you.' " "Mealtime is often the only time in the whole day when everybody's in the same room having a conversation," says William Doherty, Ph.D., author of The Intentional Family (Addison Wesley Longman, 1997), "so it's where the family's culture gets created." Even more impressive is the research suggesting that regular family meals can sharpen a child's intellect. Diane Beals, Ed.D., of the University of Tulsa, and Patton Tabors, Ed.D., of Harvard, studied 80 preschoolers and found that mealtime conversation built vocabulary even more effectively than listening to stories or reading aloud. And because gathering for a family meal is an inherently communal exercise, it naturally gives rise to basic courtesies, like saying "Please" and "Thank you," and keeping your mouth (mostly) shut when you chew. Indeed, the phrase "family dinner" has become almost a metaphor for a commitment to family -- a commitment strong enough to survive the considerable odds against it. After all, in order to eat together, every family member must make it a priority: No band practice, no TV show, no late commute can interfere. Someone -- usually an exhausted soul who's already put in a long day -- must get the food on the table, and someone must clean up. Everyone must eat -- more or less -- the same thing. And everyone must behave in a way that's not going to horrify, or annoy, the other diners. Getting all these variables to work at the same time can be so difficult that many families just give up. They believe that family dinner is a good idea -- they simply lack the stamina to pull it off. And then they feel guilty. Yet the guilt and the giving up are as unnecessary as the linen tablecloth that graced your grandmother's table. The New Family Dinner is a flexible tradition that can be accomplished in myriad ways. The first step is getting rid of your preconceptions. It doesn't have to be every night. Sixty-five percent of families with children under 6 eat dinner together five or more nights a week, but that number drops to 50 percent for families with children 12 to 17. As Dr. Silliman observes, "You get one kid in soccer, another in Scouts, and Mom's in a book club, and that can shoot three or four nights a week right there." The solution? "Eat together as often as you can," says Dr. Silliman, "and make it a pleasant experience." Even one night a week, though not optimal, gives your family an opportunity to connect. It doesn't have to be at home. Nobody wants to spend a fortune taking the family out to fancy restaurants, but fast food can be a godsend when you're pressed for time or the logistics get complicated. The local McDonald's can provide a change of scenery even the youngest children appreciate. "When my children were preteens," recounts Dr. Doherty, "we got into the habit of going out for pizza on Friday nights. We found we had more interesting conversations and far fewer fights. You haven't had to work to fix the meal, and you're out in public, so you behave a little bit better." The whole experience is just that much more pleasant. It doesn't have to be Mom doing it alone. Many of us still struggle with the stereotypes we see on late-night reruns -- Donna Reed in her apron (and high heels!), whipping up something tasty in the kitchen. Feeding a family is a big job, but it can be split into components that can easily be delegated: setting the table, making the salad, pouring the drinks, loading the dishwasher. "When kids are involved in preparing dinner," says Dr. Silliman, "they're invested in spending that time together." And, of course, you can always let your fingers do the walking and order takeout. After all, family meals will hardly stay enjoyable if one party resents the burden of putting on the show night after night. It doesn't have to be dinner. Tom Price, coauthor, with his wife, Susan Crites Price, of The Working Parents' Help Book (Peterson's, 1996), suggests variations on the evening meal. "If Dad doesn't get home until 8:00, Mom and the kids can have dessert with him. Or the family meal can be Sunday brunch." Lois Feldman and her husband, Fred Stern, of New York City, often work late, so family dinners are irregular. When their son, Michael, was 8, says Feldman, "we instituted family breakfast. It's amazing how bonding it is, even just 15 minutes a day." It doesn't even have to be food. Sure, that's the usual arrangement, but, as Dr. Doherty notes, eating together "is not the only way that family culture can be created." What matters is that family members make an effort to be together on a regular basis, focusing on one another, undistracted by TV, telephone, or Nintendo. Tom and Susan Price go for evening walks with their daughter, Julie. "We go out for half an hour just before bedtime," says Tom. "Somehow, Julie seems more comfortable discussing important subjects in the dark." For some families, driving time is ideal for bonding; others connect over gardening chores. The only constant in family life is change, and what works this month may cease to work next month, or next year. The key is flexibility. If you can throw out your preconceptions of what mealtime should be, then you can fashion a style of family dining that offers regular, enjoyable time with the people you love most. |

The Animal Rescue Site is having
trouble getting enough people to click on their link daily
to meet their quota to getting free food donated every day to abused
and neglected animals. It takes less than a minute to go to their
site and click on "feed an animal in need" for free. This doesn't
cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number
of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in
exchange for advertising. Here's the web site! Pass it along to people you know. http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com |

Why This Nurse Always Writes About Food ...Why Doesn't She Stick To ... Truly ...You Are What You Eat And Now It's Been If you have been a faithful reader of THE PEBBLE®, you might now be thinking ...why does this nurse always write about food? Why doesn't she stick to first aid or bed sores or burn dressings or how to make an AIDS patient comfortable. Nursing is about all those things, but many nurses would rather chat and help support a happy new mom or teach a wellness clinic instead of giving life support to a heart attack patient or assisting at a major accident surgery. Those are exciting careers, but they are also in nature helping someone GET better: to save them from something more serious...again prevention and recovery. The heartbreak for each nurse comes when they stand hopelessly by and watch someone with whom they have formed a strong attachment, slip away: taken by cancer or any of the other degenerative conditions. So nursing is as much about prevention as it is about care giving. It is crucial that you don't confuse "degenerative conditions " with the "normal aging process". Aging is a natural event. Your body slows down, parts don't function as well any longer, and the response of organs and whole systems is slower. This is normal and natural. (Imagine running around in your office like a two year old on an exploratory mission!) In the degenerative process, the abnormal function can happen at any age. Examples would be cancer, heart problems, Diabetes Type II and chronic conditions such as the variety of Hepatitis infections and AIDS, or dementias such as Alzheimer's. The Top 10 Foods to Beware
If you're like most people, you're probably confused about trans fats. Which foods have them, and which don't? Which are the worst foods, which are the best? WebMD turned to Cindy Moore, MS, RD, director of nutrition therapy at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for guidance. Print out this list to become a wiser, safer shopper. And remember to check the food labels. Manufacturers will probably begin reducing the amount of trans fats in packaged foods during the next few years, so this information may change. The Top 10 "Trans Fat" Foods: 1. Spreads. Margarine is a twisted sister -- it's loaded with trans fats and saturated fats, both of which can lead to heart disease. Other non-butter spreads and shortening also contain large amounts of trans fat and saturated fat:
Tip: Look for soft-tub margarine, because it is less likely to have trans fat. Some margarines already say that on the packaging. [Important note: When you cook with margarine or shortening, you will not increase the amount of trans fat in food, says Moore. Cooking is not the same as the hydrogenation process. "Margarine and shortening are already bad, but you won't make them any worse."] 2. Packaged foods. Cake mixes, Bisquick, and other mixes all have several grams of trans fat per serving. Tip: Add flour and baking powder to your grocery list; do-it-yourself baking is about your only option right now, says Moore. Or watch for reduced-fat mixes. 3. Soups. Ramen noodles and soup cups contain very high levels of trans fat. Tip: Get out the crock-pot and recipe book. Or try the fat-free and reduced-fat canned soups. 4. Fast Food. Bad news here: Fries, chicken, and other foods are deep-fried in partially hydrogenated oil. Even if the chains use liquid oil, fries are sometimes partially fried in trans fat before they're shipped to the restaurant. Pancakes and grilled sandwiches also have some trans fat, from margarine slathered on the grill. Examples:
Tip: Order your meat broiled or baked. Skip the pie. Forget the biscuit. Skip the fries -- or share them with many friends. 5. Frozen Food. Those yummy frozen pies, pot pies, waffles, pizzas, even breaded fish sticks contain trans fat. Even if the label says it's low-fat, it still has trans fat.
Tip: In frozen foods, baked is always heart-healthier than breaded. Even vegetable pizzas aren't flawless; they likely have trans fat in the dough. Pot pies are often loaded with too much saturated fat, even if they have no trans fat, so forget about it. 6. Baked Goods. Even worse news -- more trans fats are used in commercially baked products than any other foods. Doughnuts contain shortening in the dough and are cooked in trans fat. Cookies and cakes (with shortening-based frostings) from supermarket bakeries have plenty of trans fat. Some higher-quality baked goods use butter instead of margarine, so they contain less trans fat, but more saturated fat.
Tip: Get back to old-fashioned home cooking again. If you bake, use fat-substitute baking products, or just cut back on the bad ingredients, says Moore. Don't use the two sticks of butter or margarine the recipe calls for two. Try using one stick and a fat-free baking product. 7. Chips and Crackers. Shortening provides crispy texture. Even "reduced fat" brands can still have trans fat. Anything fried (like potato chips and corn chips) or buttery crackers have trans fat.
Tip: Think pretzels, toast, pita bread. Actually, pita bread with a little tomato sauce and low-fat cheese tastes pretty good after a few minutes in the toaster oven. 8. Breakfast food. Breakfast cereal and energy bars are quick-fix, highly processed products that contain trans fats, even those that claim to be "healthy."
Tip: Whole-wheat toast, bagels, and many cereals don't have much fat. Cereals with nuts do contain fat, but it's healthy fat. 9. Cookies and Candy. Look at the labels; some have higher fat content than others. A chocolate bar with nuts -- or a cookie -- is likely to have more trans fat than gummy bears.
Tip: Gummy bears or jelly beans win, hands down. If you must have chocolate, get dark chocolate -- since it's been shown to have redeeming heart-healthy virtues. 10. Toppings and Dips. Nondairy creamers and flavored coffees, whipped toppings, bean dips, gravy mixes, and salad dressings contain lots of trans fat. Tip: Use skim milk or powdered nonfat dry milk in coffee. Keep an eye out for fat-free products of all types. As for salad dressings, choose fat-free there, too -- or opt for old-fashioned oil-and-vinegar dressing. Natural oils such as olive oil and canola oil don't contain trans fat. Can you eliminate trans fats entirely your diet? Probably not. Even the esteemed National Academy of Sciences stated last year that such a laudable goal is not possible or realistic. Instead, take this suggestion from Moore: "The goal is to have as little trans fat in your diet as possible. "You're not eliminating trans fats entirely, but you're certainly cutting back."
