The Book of Genesis, Chapter 8

King James Version

Genesis 7.

The Book of Genesis

Return to Index

Chapter 8

1

And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters assuaged;

2

The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;

3

And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.

4

And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.

5

And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.

6

And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made:

7

And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth.

8

Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground;

9

But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.

10

And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark;

11

And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf plucked off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.

12

And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him any more.

13

And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry.

14

And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried.

15

And God spake unto Noah, saying,

16

Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons' wives with thee.

17

Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth.

18

And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons' wives with him:

19

Every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepeth upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark.

20

And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

21

And the LORD smelled a sweet savor; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.

22

While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

Genesis 9

High Response Marketing With Low-Cost Postcards
Copyright 2003 Bob Leduc
http://BobLeduc.com

Postcards can drive a huge amount of traffic to your web site, generate a flood of new sales leads or produce a surge in any business activity you want. And you don't have to spend a lot of time or money on them ...if you apply these four little-known postcard marketing secrets.

Postcard Marketing Secret #1:
Keep Your Message Very Brief

Don't try to close sales with postcards. You don't have enough space to provide all the information needed to close sales.

Instead, briefly state the major benefit(s) you offer to attract the reader's attention. Then focus on motivating them to get more detailed information from a source where you can close sales. For example, send them to your web site or give them a phone number to call.

Postcard Marketing Secret #2:
Design Your Postcard To Look Like A Message From A Friend.

Most postcards I see look like an ad in a magazine. But when a postcard looks like advertising, people react to it as advertising. They don't pay much attention to it.

Instead, set up your postcard to look like a brief personal message from a friend. This attracts attention and lures prospects into reading your postcard ...even though they realize it is advertising. It generates a lot more replies than postcards that look like an ad.

Postcard Marketing Secret #3:
Don't Spend a Lot on Printing

Postcards that look like a personal message can be very inexpensive to print. For example, here are 2 ways you can do the job on any computer with a printer:

* Print postcards on plain (no printed lines) 4 x 6 inch index cards. Cost: about 1.5 cents per card.

* Print 4 postcards at a time on 8 1/2 x 11 inch sheets of standard index card stock. Then cut the sheets into quarters. Each postcard will be 4 1/4 inches high by 5 1/2 inches wide. Cost: about 1 cent per card.

Tip: In the US you can send postcards by First Class Mail for 23 cents if you make them at least 3 1/2 inches high by 5 inches wide but not over 4 1/4 inches high by 6 inches wide.

Postcard Marketing Secret #4:
Don't Underestimate the Importance of Your Mailing List You can generate a high percentage of replies by sending your postcards to prospects likely to be interested in your offer AND who have a proven record of taking action on offers that interest them.

This is why postcards produce a big response when you send them to your existing customers. But how can you find new prospects with these same 2 characteristics? Here are 2 ways:

1. Rent the customer lists of companies that are not your competitors, but who sell their products or services to the same targeted market.

2. Rent the paid subscriber lists of magazines and newsletters read by prospects in your targeted market.

You can get both lists through most mailing list brokers.

The next time you want to generate a flood of traffic to your web site or a flood of new sales leads ...send postcards. Apply these four little-known postcard marketing secrets and you'll produce a big response without spending a lot of time or money.

INTERNET TIP

Tip of The Week
Paint Your Text with Your Format Painter

Have you ever found yourself constantly applying the same formatting options over and over again in a file? Maybe you're changing a font size, bolding and underlining line after line after line. Getting tired of all the highlighting of text, change font size, click bold button and then click underline button over and over again? Want a one button answer? There is help and the answer is the Format Painter button.

Basically what the Format Painter does is take the formatting from a highlighted section of text or cells and then applies just the formatting to another section of text or cells that you select. You should be able to find this wonderful invention in many of the MS Office Suite programs like MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. To begin you'll need to decide what formatting you want to copy. (Either format some of the text or cells in the current file or find another file with the formatting you need. In other words, you need formatting to copy.)

With the text or cell highlighted, click the Format Painter button (or use the keyboard combination Ctrl + Shift + C). Next you'll need to click and highlight the text or cells that you want the formatting applied to. (If you used the key combination Ctrl + Shift + C to copy the formatting, then you'll need to use Ctrl + Shift + V to paste the formatting into the new text or cell.)

Thatīs it.

You should now have reformatted text with just one button and a couple of clicks. And, as a special bonus, the Format Painter has turned itself off so you're on you're instantly on your way.

But wait you say you have more than one thing to format? Looking for a way to format multiple things without repeating the process over and over? Good idea - we can do that with just one extra click! In order to use the Format Painter on multiple items, simply double-click the button. This will turn on the Format Painter for as long as you need it. Now you're ready to paste the formatting to your heart's content.

(If you used the keyboard to copy and paste formatting then it's still turned on. You can just highlight another section and use Ctrl + Shift + V to paste again.) When you're ready to turn off the Format Painter simply click the Format Painter button again or hit the Esc key.

That's it! Formatting can really be that easy. You'll be amazed by how much time you can save. Now, if only there was a way to get back all that formatting time we've already wasted!

3 Simple Filing Guidelines

by Maria Gracia

One of the most basic ways to find papers when you need them is to retrieve them from an effective filing system. A good filing system will allow you to find what you're looking for in 10 seconds or less.

Here are 3 simple filing guidelines that can help:

  1. CATEGORIZING. A filing system is only effective, if you can find everything you need, when you need it--without a struggle. And all good filing systems have different categories of papers. Your papers are either going to fall into a MAIN category, or a SUB-category.

    For example, a main category might be FINANCIAL. Some sub-categories within Financial, may be:
    • Savings Account
    • Checking Account
    • Money Market Account
    In your filing cabinet, your main categories should always be hanging file folders with a labeled tab. Your sub-categories should be labeled manila file folders inside the appropriate main category hanging folder.

  2. BASIC FILING SYSTEMS. For the most part, people choose to use one, or a combination of, these basic filing systems:

    • Alphabetical (A, B, C, D, etc.)
    • Numerical (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.)
    • Chronological (Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, etc.)
    The one you use, depends on what you're using it for. For example, if you need to keep files for all of your customers (or associates, friends, etc.), alphabetical by last name usually will work best.

    For sequential case numbers or projects that are numbered, a numerical system would probably work best.

    If it is necessary for you to find things by date, then chronological may be your choice.

    Some people get really creative and use a combination of these systems. For example, you may want your main categories to be chronological, but the sub-categories inside to be alphabetical.

  3. LABELING. If a file isn't labeled properly, it's not going to be quick and easy to find:
    • Always write your subject on the tab of the file folder, close to the top of the tab, so you can easily see it when you're looking through your files.
    • Use a medium point, black marker to label your files. Print; don't use script.
    • Use as few words as possible on the tab.

"Why Skepticism Is Vital To The Newbie Netreprenuer"
by Karl Augustine
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At least 90% of all online businesses fail...the netreprenuer's time and money simply run out!
So, exactly how skeptical does a newbie need to be in order to really be sensible?
Being presented countless offers and products as an Internet marketing newbie, this question is really a matter of common sense. Still, many newcomers react rather than evaluate, and fall into the trap of falling for "the hook" of the offer being presented.
Rookie marketers get excited about most things that come across their desk... and for good reason. The Internet is the most powerful non-human tool in the history of marketing, and folks are making large sums of money using it.
Newbies who are truly dead set on joining the wave we call "Internet marketing" realize they have to purchase certain products and listen to certain people if they are going to learn what it takes to be successful. And, when a bullish newcomer makes his/her mind up to go for it, excitement can usually get the better of them when reading web copy. They imagine themselves making x amount of money or driving x amount of traffic to their site or believing that "this is the most amazing system...", just like they are being told to do by the sales copy of web pages. Before they can really assess what is being presented, another senior level marketer makes another sale and one more rookie has used by far his/her most valuable resources; time and money.
Rather than waste time and money, rookies should force themselves to be skeptical if they aren't inherently skeptical already. Skepticism is a good thing...it alleviates doubt and diminishes blame. Skepticism in these terms is merely taking a step back when evaluating anything and saying "Sounds good, but, am I letting emotion get in the way of my intellect? Did what I read, saw, or heard spark a specific feeling?".
If the answer is "yes" in any form, then the true skeptic will actually realize what has happened to them before they act on that feeling. At this moment, the rookie knows he/she has reached a level where he/she can protect their 2 most valued resources; time and money.
For the newbie, skepticism will hopefully lead to research and clear thoughtful evaluation before doing anything online, especially evaluating and product or service.
Here are 9 steps for the newcomer to take when evaluating anything, i.e., being skeptical:
  1. Read sales copy and identify features and benefits that fulfill the immediate and long term needs
  2. Go to Google and find other sites with similar products and repeat step 1
  3. Compare features and benefits of all products that being evaluated
  4. Compare prices
  5. Email the site owner and inquire about their guarantee is or ask about any features that are unclear. Their response time will also give an idea of their credibility.
  6. Consider who referred the product site and/or visit the sites of the people who have written the testimonials and see if they look credible
  7. After choosing the product that will be purchased, go to any well traveled forum and post a message asking if anyone could give feedback about the product being evaluated
  8. Check out the sites of the people that respond to the forum post...don't listen to just anyone!
  9. Go back, re-read the sales copy and ensure that the product fills every need that is present ...newbie should ask him/herself, "Does this product fix my immediate problem and will it be something I can benefit from for the long term based on my business plan?"
Newcomers to Internet marketing should always be skeptical about everything and evaluate with an elevated sense of logic rather than via emotion. For the newbie, this skeptical yet sensible approach will save time and money, something a rookie desperately needs in order to survive online.
Be humble, work smart, keep it simple.
SUGGESTIONS AND COMMENTS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Meditation on the word of God is the answer.

When you question your own sanity, his peace will put you back in your right mind As I am learning more about the power of the Lord, I realize my reality before this knowledge was truly unreal. The wonderful things he an do, as a sinner, I never understood. Now I can testify that he is truly a loving and merciful father. He will give you grace and mercy in the exact hour you do not deserve it.

I recall when, who is now my spiritual father, first told me of my calling. Of course my first thought was, what is this man saying, He has no idea of the things I have done. Yet, after months of listening and absorbing the things he was teaching, I began to recognize the change that was taking place. I began to think differently, I stood with more confidence. Of course, I could tell you of the very first time God showed his love to me yet, that is another testimony. Glory be to God!

When the cloud of his glory begins to overshadow you, your standards are raised. You can no longer live in mediocrity. You refuse the poverty mind set, you recognize that you are now a child of the king. Therefore, evan as you would represent your natural father, you now have to uphold the standard of God the father. After all, your father God had already established your destiny and life, from beginning to end.

God is so awesome!! We as new Christians often ask the same question,""Why, with so many that appear more deserving, did God choose I can answer that in one sentence. God chose you because he new with all the things you"ve done, that no man could aver take glory for the awesome things he done for you.

To further elaborate, if you will allow me. You know that either by works or mouth ,or perhaps both, you have done something that have made you to seem incredible to those who have known you. So with their despise of you, and as they separate themselves from you, God now has an open door. So now when God changes you they would like to say, I did that, yet even the sinner is hushed at the sound of the mighty voice of Gods rebuke. His voice thundering saying,,

""You have had no hand in this work. You despised my child in their hour of need. I as the truly loving God resurrected them back to their rightful place So no, this work is by my hand and the glory of it belongs to me. So you see there was purpose behind the hindrances that you went through. Although it may appear as a type of injustice to you, God knows what he is doing. He had to separate you from all the things you knew in order for you to want him to take to take control.

Natural Teething Remedies

The mouth is your baby's most developed sensory organ and a great source of pleasure. This pleasure can be discovered through feeding, sucking on a pacifier or fingers and, even though you hate it, sticking everything he comes across into his mouth. Then, these nasty teeth start breaking through the gums and the pleasure his mouth previously provided has been rudely interrupted.

Try to keep your baby as happy as possible by using the following natural remedies:
  1. Cold Teether - Give your baby a cold teether. A teether with texture may provide extra satisfaction. Be careful providing a teether to a child with teeth. He could puncture it.
  2. Cold Food - You can try a cold baby carrot for a child that doesn't have teeth yet. If your child has teeth, he might choke on pieces of carrot. You can also give your child a frozen banana. As always, with any food you feed your baby, be sure to supervise closely.
  3. Something to Chew on - Use teething biscuits in moderation once teeth appear as they can cause tooth decay.
  4. Entertain your Child - Sometimes a simple distraction can help your baby forget his pain temporarily.
  5. Rub your very clean finger against the gums - Your baby may object at first, but soon the counter pressure may provide some relief.
  6. Cool Bottle of Water - This may help numb the soreness of the gums

A note on teething gels: Experts caution against the excessive use of teething gels as they contain benzocaine. There is a risk of allergic reaction. In addition, benzocaine can cause numbing of the throat and could lead to choking. Consult your doctor if you want to help relieve your child's pain with benzocaine.

Thinking About Getting A Guinea Pig?

Here are some facts.

Guinea Pigs As Companion Animals

Guinea Pigs are excellent Companions for adults, supervised children over the age of five, and multi species families. They are fairly delicate and so are prone to injury if handled roughly. In addition, children under five have problems with GP's as Pigs do not like to be picked up. As prey Animals, they have a tendency to be fearful of sudden movements and loud noises. The normal life span is around six years, so one has to consider the long term care needs when allowing children, who are at an age when their interest and attention span is likely to change, to acquire them as Companions. Other Animals in the family must be watched and trained to accept Pigs as family members as opposed to potential meals. Rabbits and GP's do very well together. Some believe that GP's are at risk of being kicked by Rabbits. We've never seen any indication of this. Like all new members of the household they do need a bit of a safety net when they first arrive if they are to be housed with Rabbits. We place them in a cage in the room that the rest of their new family shares for two to four weeks so that all can become familiar with one another before allowing them to be free roaming.

The Cost of Caring For A GP
Spay/Neuter Cage,Dishes, Etc. Vet Exams Litter, Carefresh Pellets, Veggies Hay 1 yr. total 6 yr. total
$ 100 $69 $35 (1 yr) $108 (1 yr) $96(1 yr) $96(1yr) $504 $2179

The above chart is based upon internet store prices for feed and other supplies. Ordering on the internet may or may not mean extra charges for shipping, and prices seem to be equal to those at retail stores in California. The supplies mentioned include a cage, which will be needed initially. A better habitat will be called for, once the GP is acclimated to a family. The cost of such a habitat would depend upon how handy at building things the caretaker is. Also included are a feed dish, water bottle, nail clippers, and a carrier. Veterinary charges and needs may vary. We allowed for one blood or culture test, which may never be needed. Some breeders claim that GP's are not in need of regular Vet care. We consider this to be dangerous advice. We also are not including vaccinations for Bordetella, something that some geographical areas call for. The cost can also be lowered by buying a bale of Timothy hay, which should cost $14.00, and should last six months. In addition, instead of using Carefresh, Timothy hay could be used instead, in which case a bale would last two to three months.

Another consideration when choosing a GP as a family member is the time needed to provide care. GP's are fairly easy to care for, easier than Rabbits, a little harder than Rats or Mice. Feeding time is about 15 minutes a day with washing and distributing veggies, changing water, freshening cage and giving hay twice a day. Cages need to be cleaned once a week, which takes a half and hour. Grooming and health checks take about 30 minutes a month for short haired Pigs, 2 hours for long haired Pigs if you opt to keep their hair long. Long hair Pigs can be clipped with clippers in lieu of brushing, which saves time, though the cost of the clippers needs to be added.

If all of the above fits within your lifestyle and budget, a GP in the family can be a wonderful addition. Being wheeped at daily for carrots is one of life's delights. This is a printable page from www.kindplanet.org

HERB TIPS

Boost your brain power: herbs to improve your memory and mental acuity.(The Herbalist)

Author/s: Kathi Keville
Part 3 of 5
Another study conducted in France took a group of 80 elderly people whose reasoning ability, mental perception and memory had suddenly taken a sharp decline (Psychology Medical, 1986, vol. 19). One group of subjects took gingko, and the other group received a placebo. After three months, the gingko group per formed four times better than the placebo group on mental aptitude tests. The most dramatic improvements were seen in immediate short-term memory, attention span, and how quickly they perceived and responded to information. A study on young, healthy subjects (Therapiewoche, 1986, vol. 36) determined the reason for these effects. Electroencephalograph tests conducted an hour after subjects were given ginkgo extract showed an increase in the strength of both beta and alpha waves, the brain waves associated with, respectively, normal consciousness and wakeful relaxation; this effect lasted more than four hours.

Gingko is best known for long-term effects, but in increased doses it can also be quick-acting. For example, a study of healthy young women found that subjects who took 600 milligrams of ginkgo extract one hour before performing challenging memorization tests scored significantly higher than when they didn't take anything (International Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, 1984, vol. 4: 889-93).

Panax ginseng (Panax ginseng or Panax quinquefolius) is another favorite brain herb, though its mechanism of action is different from ginkgo's. According to research done at the Institute of Materia Medica at the Chinese Academy of Medical Science, an herb research institute in Beijing, Panax ginseng contains compounds called ginsenosides that increase the brain's neurotransmitter activity as well as its synthesis of protein, which is necessary for a variety of functions.

Having a quick brain is good for more than just improved memory. The reference book Korean Ginseng Studies tells of a 37-year-old pianist whose performance was suffering because he couldn't concentrate and was tired all the time. Researchers gave him Panax ginseng for several months and a placebo for several more months. During the period he took ginseng, it helped so much that the researchers found the audience applause increased by 12 percent; there was no increase when he took the placebo. This was an unusual way to gauge the success of an herb, but it certainly makes its point!

In a more conventional study, Swedish researchers at the 1974 International Ginseng Symposium--a gathering sponsored by researchers and businesses interested in promoting ginseng--reported that college students who took two capsules of Panax ginseng a day experienced improved concentration and better test scores than a control group. Several clinical ginseng studies have been done on proofreaders and radio telegraph workers, whose stressful jobs demand accuracy and quick responses. When they took Panax ginseng, they had faster responses, made half as many mistakes, and increased their reading speed and concentration.

HEALTH TIPS

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpts from "Healthy Living" by Dr James Balch.
Avoid Eye Drops for Longer Lasting Vision.
Artificial tears might be warranted if a person is really troubled by dry eyes, but over reliance on eye drops should be avoided.
Here’s why: These drops shrink the blood vessels and dilate the pupils......and, in some cases, they have been blamed for the emergence of a certain form of Glaucoma called "tack of angle closure Glaucoma".
Plus, the drops never work for very long. Like sinus sprays, they tend to have a "rebound effect": They wear off and the eyes become red and dry again. Repeat this over and over, and eventually the eyes fail to respond altogether.
"The truth is all of us experience a reduction in the production of watery tears once we begin to age, but I don’t believe that aging is to blame. Instead, I believe this epidemic of dry, irritated eyes is more the product of a combination of interactions between foods and medications, as well as plain dehydration. But in the face of this epidemic, what has me the most worried is the indiscriminate use of eye drops."
Don’t ruin the health of your eyes by overusing eye drops. Look to the real causes of this problem - insufficient water intake and low levels of essential fats in the diet.
Plenty of Water Can Chase Away Dry Eyes
First and foremost, boost your intake of good, clean water. Set a goal to drink at least eight glasses a day. If you weigh more than 135 pounds, you need even more. Drink an ounce of water for every two pounds of body weight.
Adequate hydration supports the body’s ability to make watery tears. But make sure you’re not drinking tap water. It’s full of chemicals and bacteria. Instead, buy bottles of distilled water or invest in a good distiller.
editor's note: our experiences lead us to believe that in some situations, lack of standards and adequate testing mean that bottled water is not necessarily safer than tap water. We recommend you also consider the purchase of a reputable water filtration system, either built-in or in jug-form such as those sold by Brita or Pur.
