Product Review of ListInferno

Concept: Adds Thousands Of 100% Opt-In Leads To Your List Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 Ease of Use: 5 out of 5 Effectiveness: 5 out of 5 Recommendation: Use Immediately - Major List Building Tool Price: FREE

Anyone successful on the Internet tells you the gold is in your list. But what if you can't get that list? What if you're struggling to get just 100 subscribers a week?

Now there's a better solution, that enables anyone to add thousands of 100% opt-in subscribers to their list, with very little effort.

Technical eMarketer Steve Shaw, the guy behind this tool, says that ListInferno has been designed to "give everyone and anyone the ability to create their own big valuable opt-in list ... this system has been designed to add thousands of opt-in leads to your list for the bare minimum of effort - and it's all 100% free".

So, does it live up to the hype?

When I first took a look at this tool, I thought, "Well, there are some systems similar to this one on the net... What makes this one so special?"

Then, when I signed up and followed the process in the Setup Wizard, the answer was easy to see. There are some subtle differences in this tool that make it really stand out. And I'd be willing to bet that these differences may well make this the most viral list building tool yet seen online.

It's important to realize, that rather than bringing you huge amounts of traffic, this tool brings you what anyone wanting to make money online needs even more - quality targetted 100% opt-in leads for your list.

This new free tool could well be the easiest, cheapest and fastest way to build your list yet developed. In fact, by jumping on board with this as soon as possible, you could gain a strong advantage over your competitors.

And if they are already signed up, that's even more reason not to waste any more time. After all, the one with the biggest list usually wins, and makes the most money.

Definitely ride the wave on this:

http://www.ListInferno.com/?i=219&c=h1

Listen, I've tried this out myself - it's so easy and so effective, it would be pretty dumb not to use it immediately. Anything that can give you free subscribers for virtually zero effort is worth a try - and this system can give you lots of those.

Bottom Line: This is probably the most effective list building system we have ever encountered - and quite possibly there will never be anything like this again. We mean that. We just hope it stays free... You should get it now while it still is.

The Book of Genesis, Chapter 11

King James Version

Genesis 10.

The Book of Genesis

Return to Index

Chapter 11

1

And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

2

And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

3

And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar.

4

And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

5

And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

6

And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

7

Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

8

So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

9

Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

10

These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:

11

And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

12

And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah:

13

And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

14

And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber:

15

And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

16

And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg:

17

And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.

18

And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu:

19

And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.

20

And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug:

21

And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.

22

And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor:

23

And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

24

And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah:

25

And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.

26

And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

27

Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.

28

And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.

29

And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.

30

But Sarai was barren; she had no child.

31

And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.

32

And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.

Scumbag of the Week
======================================
This week's Scumbag award goes out to two people: Myself for putting too much faith in humanity, and TopSurfer, for destroying that faith and making me even more (if that's possible) jaded. As you know, a large part of JimWorld is our FreeSiteTemplates.com service, wherein we allow designers to upload their templates to add to our own designs, and let you download them for free, with no strings. We don't allow the developers to require copyrights or link backs. The premise of the site is that the templates are there, free, so that beginning Webmasters can have a nice starting point, and so that designers who are in a bind can find something to start from, quickly. Within the templates, we do allow for designers to include a "readme" file so that people downloading their templates can contact them for more work or assistance. In the end, Webmasters get good templates with no strings, designers get exposure and maybe some business, and JimWorld gets lots of traffic, plus due to the way that we distribute the templates, we get more subscribers to The Gazette.

We're also getting screwed. Apparently, the folks at TopSurfer thought it would be a good idea to download all of our templates (for free, using our bandwidth) and sell them as a part of their "service." This was done without our permission and without the permission of the designers whose templates they stole. In addition to this, TopSurfer, after having gotten their copy of The Gazette (everyone that downloads a template is automatically subscribed to receive at least one issue), they thought it would be a good idea to report us to SpamCop. So, not only have they stolen our free material for retail sale, they've taken steps to make sure that The Gazette cannot be sent out to our loyal subscribers. As a result of this, until I can put some more rigid controls on the downloading of templates, I've had to take the freesitetemplates.com download area offline. This is hurting everyone. I'm taking this one personally, folks.

Computer Maintance Tips

BIOS

If you're running Windows 98, you could be bumping
against an 8 gigabyte limit on your hard drive. The problem
is in your BIOS (basic input/output system). It tells Windows
there is an 8GB drive present, even if the drive is much
larger. This situation usually arises when the original
hard drive, which was probably 8GB or less, is replaced.

You can get around this limitation with disk management
software. Try EZ-Drive, which is available from Western
Digital, http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp.
According to the company, EZ-Drive is part of its Data
Lifeguard v10.0. It is free.Another program that should
work is Ontrack DiskManager,
http://www.ontrack.com/diskmanager. It is $64.95.

You could also check with the BIOS manufacturer for
an update. BIOS changes are done through a process
called "flashing." I don't recommend that you do this unless
you are a skilled technician. Should the update
fail, your computer could be rendered useless.

INTERNET TIP

Know Your Downloads

If you download a lot of programs from the Internet and want to know quickly the contents of the .zip or .exe files say, six months later, then create a text file in 'Notepad' for each download and name it the same name as the downloaded file but with the .txt extension. In it write a short description of the file and the date. Better still, copy the description from the page you were downloading from and paste it into the text file. Place all the files in the same 'Download' folder. By sorting the files by name in windows explorer, you will find each .txt file next to its corresponding .zip or .exe file and you can read it by simply double clicking on it. To avoid starting 'Notepad' and dragging files from folder to folder, the next time you make a download open any .txt file from the 'Download' folder, replace the description in it with the new one and save the file (click 'File' and 'Save as') with the new name. Your new .txt file will be added to the same 'Download' folder and the old .txt file will still be there.

Winter Is Fast Approaching - Is Your Home Prepared? Follow These Tips to Protect Home and Family.

Author/s:

MAHWAH, N.J. -- With winter approaching, many homeowners are beginning to prepare their homes for the cold months ahead. Performing a few quick and easy maintenance chores around the house now could save time and money later, but many people overlook key steps in winterizing a home. Are you including the following on your list?

  • Check the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
  • Inspect the chimney.
  • Make sure windows are sealed to prevent drafting.
  • Schedule a termite inspection. Wood beams, walls and floors make cozy spots for termites in the winter.

If you didn't schedule a termite inspection, you could be at risk for termite infestation. Most homeowners do not realize that termites can silently eat away at their house throughout the winter months. A year-round problem, termites invade the homes of more than two million Americans every year at a cost of more than $2.5 billion in structural damage. Termites cause more damage each year than tornados, hurricanes, floods and fires combined. However, homeowners can reduce the chance of a termite infestation by following a few simple precautions, such as removing mulch and firewood from the foundation of the home.

"By putting mulch, leaf litter or firewood stacks against the foundation of their homes, homeowners create a food source for termites and a `highway' into their houses," says Tony DeJesus of New England Pest Control in Providence, RI.

Limiting the supply of moisture to the foundation also helps to prevent termites. In addition, homeowners should remove all scrap wood, wooden debris and plant clippings when landscaping, and be mindful of how close shrubbery is to the home. Any wood source, including mulch, is an invitation for termites to feast.

There's also a new tool, the Termite Risk Calculator, designed to help consumers determine their home's risk for termite infestation with a fast and easy quiz, which is featured on the Termidor(R) Termite Control web site, http://www.termidorhome.com.

Whether winterizing, renovating, or buying a new home, pest management professionals (PMPs) emphasize the importance of scheduling a termite inspection.

"While most people visit a doctor annually for a physical, many forget that their homes also need a regular check-up," said Steve Earl, co-owner of Lien Termite and Pest Control in Omaha, NE. "Now is a good time for homeowners to schedule a termite inspection and make plans to winterize their homes for protection against other household pests."

Both DeJesus and Earl rely on Termidor termiticide/insecticide to treat homes with active termite infestations and to prevent termite invasions in homes before they occur. Unlike other treatments on the market, Termidor has been proven effective at providing 100 percent control of termites in three months or less, offering homeowners and PMPs alike a lasting solution to this persistent pest.

"In the two years since we began using Termidor, we have not had a single callback to retreat a house," said DeJesus. "As a result of this high success rate, we have seen an increase in the number of customers who are looking to Termidor to provide a superior level of termite control."

Only PMPs who have been trained by Bayer Environmental Science have authorization to use and purchase Termidor. For a list of Termidor-certified pest management companies, homeowners can call 1-877-TERMIDOR, or visit the web site at http://www.termidorhome.com.

About Termidor

Termidor remains the leading liquid termiticide by providing 100 percent control of subterranean termites in three months or less. Termidor has been used on more than 600,000 homes nationwide with unprecedented results. Through eight years of trials by the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service, Termidor has been proven to provide 100 percent control of subterranean termites in all tests at all locations. Termidor's unique mode of action, known as the "Transfer Effect(TM)," controls termites by both ingestion and contact. Termites can pick up Termidor on their bodies and unknowingly carry lethal doses back to their colony, killing others they contact on the way.

What's the #1 Thing People Do Wrong?
by Joe Vitale www.mrfire.com

I admit it. I'm frustrated. I'm tired of getting emails from people who write, "I can't do what you did because ---."

Just fill in the blank with whatever excuse you can think of.

People say they can't write as many books as I have because they don't have the time, or they're too old, or too young, or too married, or too single.

People say they can't make their book a best-seller like I did because their book is different, or they're different, or the timing is different.

People say they can't ask celebrities for endorsements because they feel insignificant, or insulting, or imposing.

The list of excuses is endless. Here are some more actual ones I've received:

"You're more famous than me. I could never write people and ask for their help, as they wouldn't give me the time of day."

I started asking people for help, advice, input, suggestions and direction when I was a teenager. I have letters from FBI king J. Edgar Hoover, boxing legend Jack Dempsey, and master magician John Mulholland. I was certainly unknown then. Yet people always helped me. I've managed to connect with Evel Kneivel, Donald Trump, Jimmy Carter, best-selling authors and more--- and I did it before anyone knew my name. I simply ASKED for their help. They were kind and replied. Today I'm doing the same for anyone who writes me who sounds sincere and respectful.

"You have a large network of people to ask for things."

Yes, I do. NOW. But I didn't when I first started. I developed my network by building relationships. I reached out to people, helped them, they helped me, and trust was formed. Because I've nurtured my relationships online for almost ten years now, a bond is set. When I announce that I want contributions for a new book, my network responds. When they want something, I respond. I was able to compile all the information for my most recent book, "The E- Code: 47 Surprising Secrets for Making Money Online Almost Instantly," in less than 7 days --- all because I asked my network for help.

"You have a big mailing list so you can sell things faster."

I went online with no mailing list. NONE. I didn't even recognize the importance of having my own list until one day I offered my first e-class to my then tiny list and made $22,500 in one week. Then I woke up. I've been working on building my email list ever since. Anyone can do it. And while you're waiting to do it, you can always joint-venture with people who already have mailing lists. How? Just ASK. One day some person in Norway wrote me. He wanted to know if I would help him sell his new software. I liked his program and agreed. He didn't have a list. I did. He had software. I liked it. I did a mailing and split the profits with him. It was a win-win.

"You are more talented as a copywriter so you can sell better than me."

I learned to be a copywriter by investing time, money and effort into studying the greats and getting out there and doing it. My first sales letters were garbage. I still write and rewrite to make my letters as hypnotic as I can. I wasn't born writing, reading, or even walking. I learned it all. Can't you?

"I don't have anything to offer free to get people to buy what I am selling."

There are a million things for free online. You can find thousands--- thousands!---of free e-books online. Just grab a few and offer them as your incentives to get people to buy your product or service. Anyone can do this. Just look around online. The fruit is there for the picking. I've seen people take classics of literature---now in the public domain and available as e-books---and offer them as incentives for prospects to buy their product. It works. How do you find them? SEARCH.

"I can't teach an e-class like you because I have no credentials."

Your credentials are you. They are your life experiences more than anything else. Few today care about whether you have a degree or any other credential. They care if you can deliver on whatever you promise. My lifemate, Nerissa, is about to teach an online video editing class. Anything you can teach off-line can be taught on-line. With video, audio, graphics, text, and chat rooms, you can have a virtual classroom on ANYTHING you can imagine. Why not?

"I can't make money selling my stuff on the Internet."

Look around. The Internet is so big and vast and even incomprehensible that truly anything can be sold online. I've seen people sell tumble weeds and buggy whips, greeting cards and computer generated art. Anything sold off-line can be sold on-line. Go look at Ebay. People sell cars, used clothes, dirt and even snow there. I once sold an "Elvis Mermaid" at Ebay. (You can see a picture of it at www.mrfire.com) Are there really any limits to what can be sold online?

"I missed the right time to sell my idea."

Really? Just look at the title of one of my books: "There's A Customer Born Every Minute." A new crowd of prospects appears every single day. You can sell virtually anything at virtually any time if you think of what people want and cater to them. Sometimes you have to think of other uses for the same product, or other audiences than what you originally had in mind. But the best time to sell what you have is now. What are you waiting for?

"You live in America and I live in Mexico and selling doesn't work here."

Give me a break. Friends of mine always go to Mexico (and other countries said to be behind us) and they come home with truck loads of things they bought. Besides that, with the Internet, where you live is almost meaningless. Take your product and go online. Then you're not selling to your poor neighbors, but to the entire planet. Think BIG.

The list goes on and on.

To me, excuses are the #1 thing people do wrong -- online and off. While all of these excuses seem legit to the person saying them, they are virtually all hogwash.

Excuses are beliefs. If you buy into them, you're stuck. If you believe instead that there's always a way around whatever the excuse is, then you'll move forward. My philosophy is, "There is ALWAYS a way."

So let me try to help you here.

First, what are your excuses?

When I began this article by asking the question, "I can't do what you did because ---", what did you say? How did you complete the sentence? Those are some of your excuses.

Second, ask yourself if there's any way on earth to get around your excuses. In other words, are the excuses you stated real or imagined? Have you tried to get past any of them? Has anyone else, ever, gotten past the same excuses?

Finally, what would you do if you had no excuses?

Whatever your answer, get out there and JUST DO IT.

Leave your excuses behind and your prosperity will begin to come to you.

Leave your excuses behind and you can achieve success, too.

Leave your excuses behind and your life will begin to soar.

If you don't act now, why not?

Whatever your answer, THAT'S an excuse.

Are you going to let it stop you?

Forcing Bulbs for Winter Beauty By Brenda Hyde

If you are like me and go through a little bit of a blue period in the winter when you can't garden outside, then you may want to consider forcing bulbs. You can do this with daffodils, hyacinths, snowdrops, tulips and crocus, among others. Generally 6 tulips, 3 hyacinths, 6 daffodils or 15 crocus will fit in a 6- or 7-inch pot. You can make a potting mixture of potting soil, sand and peat moss-mixed in equal amounts. To each pot add about a teaspoon of bonemeal for a boost. You can also use a plastic window box type container that is long and thin to mix the bulbs and come out with a neat display. But you may want to have several pots and displays to stagger and bring indoors for forcing at different times to stagger blooms.

Plant the bulbs with the pointed side up, and don't cover the neck of the daffodils-just the fat part of the bulb. The smaller bulbs such as crocus should be covered with just a 1/2 inch of soil. You soil should be a 1/2-1 inch away from the top of the container to allow for watering and the bulbs can be planted very close together. After planting, water well and then they need to begin their cold treatment. You will need a frost-free place such as a garage, or a cool attic or cool basement-the temperature must be about 35-55 degrees for the bulbs to grow healthy roots. The pots can be placed in plastic bags to help keep the moisture in. Do check on them during their cold period, because they shouldn't dry out.

The bulbs will need about 10-15 weeks of this treatment before you bring them indoors. Bring the pots inside-all at once or a few each week-depending on what you planted. They will need a sunny, (indirect sun) but cool spot that is about 55-70 degrees and the soil must be kept moist at all times. Your flowers will last longer in the cooler temperatures. If you plant your bulbs now, in October, they should be ready to force around Christmas, and all of the pots, if you are staggering blooms, should be inside before the end of February. They will bloom in about 3-4 weeks after you bring them indoors. Forcing blooms is such a wonderful way to bring a little early spring sunshine into our homes. Buy your bulbs now-it's an added bonus that many stores are marking them down!

THE BEGINING

I lost my way,
I lost track of time.
I lost my heart,
I'm losing my mind.

I can find no way to get to where I'm going.
I have no way of remembering where I have been.
I can not see what is infront of me,
I have no idea what is behind me.

I have regained my mental track yet, the knowledge of time is something I still lack.
I can not see the days for what they are, I can only see the nights for what they where.

I am happy.
Yet I am not.
I am mad.
Yet I am not.

I am lost in my ownself my mind gives me no path.
My soul feels like a well and just as hollow.
I am lost, please walk so I can follow and find my
own way in this thing called life.

My mind is clear yet, I can not think.
I feel as if I am on the edge, maybe on the brink.
Help if you can,but you will not suceed.
Help is not what I need,.....I am just lost!

I see so many people who think they know where they
are going yet, they only know where they have been.
Everyone is lost in their own way but, to find their path,
they need only clear their minds.
Could you please just walk so I can follow and soon
I will find my own way.

RECIPES

The Food and Cooking Network
mailto:subscribe@e-cookbooks.net?subject=SUBSCRIBE
http://www.electronic−book−library.com

Applebee's French Onion Soup
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 6 medium white onions, sliced
  • 8 cups good quality beef broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 5 hamburger buns
  • 10 slices provolone cheese
  • 10 teaspoons shredded parmesan cheese

  • Heat vegetable oil in a large soup pot or saucepan over medium high heat. Add the sliced onions and saute for 20 minutes until the onions begin to soften and start to become translucent. Add the beef broth, water, salt, garlic powder and black pepper to the pan and bring the mixture to a boil. When soup begins to boil, reduce heat and simmer for 45 minutes.

  • To make the croutons, separate the bottoms from tops of the hamburger buns. Set aside the bottoms, and cut the crown of the tops to make them the same size and shape as the bottoms. This gives you 10 BIG croutons. Preheat oven to 325F. Place the bread in the the oven directly on the rack and bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until each piece is golden brown and crispy. Set aside.

  • When the soup is done, spoon about 1 cup into an oven-safe bowl. Float a crouton on top of the soup, then place a slice of provolone cheese on top of the crouton. Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon of shredded parmesan cheese over the provolone. Place the bowl into your oven set to high broil. Broil the soup for 5 to 6 minutes or until the cheese is melted and starting to brown (you may need to broil longer if you are making more than one bowl at a time). Sprinkle an additional 1/2 teaspoon of shredded parmesan cheese over the top of the soup and serve. Repeat for the remaining bowls.

How to protect your Family and Valuables
By James Thomas
Summary: You can protect your family and valuables with a hidden safe room!

Every family can use a place in the home to retreat to in an emergency like a home invasion or burglary for example. A safe and secure place like a safe room!

If an intruder were to invade your home for example, would you have a place to retreat to and secure yourself into?

What about your valuables? Do you have a place in your home to hide your valuables from criminals? They can’t steal what they can’t find!

So, how do you hide a safe room from criminals in order to protect your family and valuables? You need a concealed or “hidden” door!

How about a “Bookcase Hidden Door” that is a real bookcase and functions as a door! You just push it open and disappear inside!

A hidden safe room is a great way to protect your family and valuables and right now there are several hidden doors available through the internet for you to purchase and install yourself!

Here are a few uses for a safe room/closet:

- Safe closet (lower external slide lock allows entrance by children or adults)

- Secure Gun Closet (top lock for adults prevents children from opening closet)

-Jewelry Storage closet

-Hidden entrance into basement

-First floor to second floor hidden stare case

-Two bookcase hidden-doors can be installed on either side of the safe closet to allow you to slip from room to room.

-Partition walls can be used to create the safe closet or safe room. For example: A false wall can be built across a room and a series of bookcases (sold separately) can be installed with only one bookcase serving as a hidden entrance into the hidden room.

Elite Carpentry is one maker of a quality Bookcase Hidden Door that is designed to hold up to 200 lbs and function as a door. Moreover, it's on SALE!

(Winter Tips)

  1. A Feast for Our Feathered Friends

Even the dreariest of winters can be brightened by the appearance of a scarlet cardinal or other colorful bird at your window! You can easily set up a bird feeding station by purchasing a feeder and basic wild bird seed mix at most local hardware, landscaping and discount stores in this area. Or you can go to a specialty store like Wild Wings Nature Store in Hidenwood Shopping Center which carries a wide variety of feeders, baths, seeds, literature and other items to set up the perfect "diner" for your feathered friends. Be creative! Things from your kitchen like baked goods, corn, table scraps, buttermilk, cream cheese, peanut butter, dog biscuits, apple or orange slices, and nutmeats are also good food sources.

It is important to provide your birds with water. All animals needs fresh water! Above all, once you start feeding the birds, don't stop! Birds will rely on your feeder as a regular stop on their luncheon route!

Clean your feeder and bath often. Diseases can be easily spread if you are not careful. One of our most common area birds, the house finch, is currently suffering from a disease called "finch pox" which causes the birds to go blind and eventually starve.

  2. Making Your Holiday and Winter Season Safe For Your Pet
The holidays and winter pose special risks to pets. Give your pet a safer, healthier, cold weather season by following these tips:
    • Keep indoor pets in a dry, warm area, free of drafts. Elevate your pet's bed off the floor.
    • Provide outdoor dogs or cats with a dry, insulated pet house or shelter out of the wind. Make sure your dogs house is no larger than 3 times his size and is approximately 4 inches off the ground to provide insulation. Staying warm demands extra calories, so feed your pet accordingly when temperatures drop. Bring your pet inside if the wind chill or other weather conditions become severe.
    • Remove ice, salt and caked mud from your pet's paws and coat at once. Contact your veterinarian immediately if you suspect your pet has frostbite. Frostbitten skin may turn reddish, white or gray, and it may be scaly or sloughing.
    • Cats and kittens often nap on car engines. Knock on the hood or honk the horn; then wait a few minutes before starting the car.
    • Pets like the smell and taste of antifreeze, but even a small amount can kill them. Thoroughly clean up spills at once. Tightly close containers and store them where pets cannot get to them. Or switch to the pet-safe and environmentally safe antifreeze, Sierra.
    • Never let your dog off the leash during a snow storm as it cannot easily retrace its scent over snow or ice and may become lost.
    • Holiday paraphernalia can hurt pets. Cover or tack down electrical cords. Keep tinsel and glass ornaments out of reach. Read warnings on items like spray-on snow. Never put ribbon around a pet's neck or allow it to play with plastic or foil wrappings or six-pack beverage holders. Keep burning candles out of your pets reach. And just in case kitty tries some Tarzan-like antics, fasten your holiday tree securely to a window ledge or other secure area.
    • Keep your pet on its regular diet. Holiday treats, such as chocolate and bones can be toxic and harmful.
    • Many plants - including Christmas rose, holly, mistletoe, philodendron and dieffenbachia are toxic to pets. Keep them out of your pet's reach.
    • Always have fresh, clean water available.

HERB TIPS

Basil: Everyone's Favorite Herb!
By Brenda Hyde
of SeedsOfKnowledge.com

If a person loves herbs, they love basil. It seems to be everyone's favorite herb and the recipes are endless that take advantage of this fresh and spicy leaf. I personally think if you can only grow two plants it should be a pot of tomatoes and a pot of basil. With these two plants and a few basic pantry items you can treat yourself to gourmet faire!

Growing Basil

Basil is an annual, and is easily grown from seed. There are over two dozen types of basil including lettuce-leaf which has large leaves, cinnamon basil and the purple leafed varieties. Basil is not frost tolerant at all, so be sure to only plant after the soil has warmed completely. Though it needs full sun, it does need more moisture than some herbs, so keep it watered; especially in pots. You can bring basil inside as a window herb if you plant the seeds during the warm weather in pots and bring inside to grow in a bright and sunny window.

Using and Preserving Basil

Basil can be frozen, dried, or preserved in oil. It's delicious however you choose to preserve it. Basil is also available year round in most produce sections. Add leaves to salad or sandwiches with your lettuce, saute at the last minute with almost any vegetable and add to soups. It is also wonderful in herbal vinegars mixed with oregano and thyme. The following recipes are just a few of the many you are sure to run across!

Recipes

    Basil Mayonnaise
This wonderful mayonnaise can be used for burgers, sandwiches, or to coat chicken before roasting.
  • Ingredients:
  • 1 cup loosely packed basil leaves
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
  • Blend in food processor or blender until smooth.

In Growing & Using Basil, Ellen Ogden offers all the information you'll need to grow, harvest, and cook with basil in all its varieties of flavor. Whatever the basil you want to grow -- sweet, purple, opal, lemon, cinnamon, anise, napoleatano, camphor, holy, or something more exotic -- the information you need is right at your fingertips.

    Basil and Tomato Bruschetta
  • Ingredients:
  • 12 pieces crusty Italian Bread, 1 inch thick
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 2 large, ripe tomatoes, peeled, seeded and diced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh oregano
  • 24-36 basil leaves, torn into small pieces
  • 12 garlic cloves, peeled, and cut in half lengthwise
  • salt and pepper
  • Toast bread over a grill or a very hot oven of 425 degrees. Brown on both sides. Remove and brush with oil. In a bowl combine tomatoes, oregano and basil. Place cloves in separate bowl. Serve bread warm and rub garlic cloves on bread, top with mixture and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  • I also sprinkle and with parmesan cheese and put under the broiler for just a minute to heat top.

    Basil Puree
  • Ingredients:
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 8 cups washed and dried basil leaves
  • Blend until pureed. Transfer to clean jar. Store in refrigerator. Each time you use it stir and then top with a thin layer of oil. It will keep one year by doing this. This is good on grilled chicken or fish, stirred into soups or mixed with sun dried tomatoes and broiled on bread.

    Walnut and Basil Paste
  • Ingredients:
  • 1 cup lightly packed fresh basil leaves
  • 3 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 3/4 cup walnut pieces
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 teaspoons red wine or herb vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Place the basil in the work bowl of a food processor. With the motor running, drop in the garlic and process until basil and garlic are finely chopped about 15 seconds. Add the nuts, cheese, vinegar and oil. Process to make a rough paste, about 20 seconds. Smear evenly onto poultry, fish or vegetables just before grilling. Makes enough for about 2 pounds of poultry or fish.

    Basil Butter
  • 1 stick butter, softened
  • 1 or 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped basil
  • Cream butter, beat in garlic and lemon juice. Mash in basil; season with salt and pepper. Place bowl in refrigerator to firm butter. For a nice, simple appetizer use room temperature butter on grilled pieces of baguette or French bread.

HEALTH TIPS

It's All In Your Point Of View!
by Ken Darby

The two teenagers were arrested . The arresting officer told them they were entitled to a phone call.

Some time later, a man entered the station and the sergeant said, "I suppose you're the kids' lawyer."

"Nope," the chap replied. "I'm just here to deliver them a pizza."

If that were you or I in jail like these teenagers we would be mortified. It would represent a catastrophe to us, and you can bet our call would not be to a Pizza Parlor.

Such is life. As we progress we change our thinking, and our priorities.

It is not important whether the teens called home or not. Our argument does not fulcrum on whether they did right or wrong.

What we are concerned with here is the attitude one carries through life. The older we become the more likely the more uptight we become. Why?

Someone once said "Don't take life so seriously. You won't get out of it alive anyway!"

There is wisdom in that little quip. The medical community has long known that stress, alone, kills people by the hundreds of thousands. That is a true statement. Stress kills people by the hundreds of thousands. It is THE major contributor to poor dietary practices, cancer, heart problems, strokes and diabetes.

Maybe a little frivolity should come into every life. Maybe we should once more learn to laugh, play and fool around like we were teens again. The business of being serious at all times in all things is a deadly business.

Detach from what you think is important. Take a little breather from it on a regular basis. Learn to philosophize a little on the comings and goings in life.

Most of all LEARN TO RELAX. Yes, I yelled at you. It is that critical for your well being.

Remember how lazy and relaxed you feel early in the morning before you get out of bed. Your body is calm, as is your mind, and you feel great. Learn to become that relaxed anytime in the day you decide. You will find things go better and you will actually become healthier.

Think on these points if you would enjoy the fruits of your labors. Working hard all your life to gain financial freedom only to find that when you have it you cannot enjoy it, because of poor health, is not a nice way to live life.

Just think. The next time you're in jail, call the Pizza Parlor.

It's All In Your Point Of View!
