The Book of Genesis, Chapter 14

King James Version

Genesis 13.

The Book of Genesis

Return to Index

Chapter 14

1

And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of nations;

2

That these made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar.

3

All these were joined together in the vale of Siddim, which is the salt sea.

4

Twelve years they served Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled.

5

And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, and the kings that were with him, and smote the Rephaim in Ashteroth Karnaim, and the Zuzims in Ham, and the Emins in Shaveh Kiriathaim,

6

And the Horites in their mount Seir, unto Elparan, which is by the wilderness.

7

And they returned, and came to Enmishpat, which is Kadesh, and smote all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites, that dwelt in Hazezontamar.

8

And there went out the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar;) and they joined battle with them in the vale of Siddim;

9

With Chedorlaomer the king of Elam, and with Tidal king of nations, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; four kings with five.

10

And the vale of Siddim was full of slime pits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and fell there; and they that remained fled to the mountain.

11

And they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their victuals, and went their way.

12

And they took Lot, Abram's brother's son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.

13

And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these were confederate with Abram.

14

And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.

15

And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.

16

And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.

17

And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king's dale.

18

And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.

19

And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:

20

And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.

21

And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself.

22

And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,

23

That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:

24

Save only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men which went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.

Genesis 15

It's Just To Easy To Quit!

By: Audra Gehrke

I could have thrown in the towel a thousand times in the last 4+ years but I didn't. That would just make it to easy and besides, then what would I do, I asked myself.

I didn't have an answer then and I still don't. What I'm doing now is really the only thing I've ever loved, and that is helping other people.

We all get obstacles that try and get in our way, but we always have other options when something happens to us no matter what it is. These are what I like to call our trying times. Like something is trying to see if we can make it through it or not. If we can, then we should have learned a lesson from it. If we don't make it through it, then it probably will happen to us again.

Life is a big circle that keeps spinning around and around. We either change something or we leave it alone and it never changes. When we give something we receive something. Give good get good, give bad and you get bad back. It's a big circle and it will always stay the same until we do something to change it.

People want us to quit. Our friends and families don't want to see us succeed. At least that's how it is for most of us who try and become self employed. I don't know why, but people seem to hate to see people succeed, especially if they aren't successful themselves.

We all need someone who will support us in our decisions and it doesn't matter who you get it from, as long as you get it. Whether you have someone who you talk to through email, a friend, a mentor, just someone who will support you in your decisions and give you good advise.

In the end, you'll be supporting each other and that is always a great thing to have. It's very uplifting to check my email in the morning and read some emails from my friends on the internet. They're my colleagues but they're my friends too, and we all support each other which really makes it something to look forward to everyday.

We work our butts off to build our businesses so why someone can just call it quits is beyond me. Then what are you going to do, build another business? How are you going to do that when your first business didn't work? Do you know why it didn't work? These are things people need to be aware of before they even think about starting something new. It's like jumping from program to program but you've never really succeeded with the first one, but you're still joining everything that comes along. You can say your giving up on the last program you joined the moment you join something new, because you totally lose focus of it.

I know, I used to do that too. You have to find that one thing that really, really sparks your interest and that's the one you put all of your attention on and leave everything else alone. If something isn't working then change it, or get out of it, but don't keep wasting your money on things that aren't working for you because all that will do is get you broke. Focus on what you want and forget everything else for the time being.

By all means don't call it quits. There's a million options for us and we need to start putting them to use. If you have questions then ask them. Who do you ask you might say? Hmmmm...Publishers are a good place to start. Do you have a favorite publisher? That's the one you need to get in touch with, because publishers really are your best friends and they're always willing to help anyone who asks.

It's just to easy to quit, so don't you do it!

All the best, Audra

Internet Marketing Tips

Five Tips for Internet Marketing Success
By Scott Buresh

Do you view your website as an expense or as an investment?
Surprisingly, many companies seem to view their website as a necessary cost of doing business, not an opportunity to attract an audience and gain new customers. The following five tips can help transform a non-performing website into an effective sales and marketing tool.

1. Make sure potential customers can find you on the search engines.

Most businesses don't take advantage of search engine optimization, but few things on the Internet can be as beneficial. A recent Forrester Research report showed that 80% of web surfers
discover the new sites that they visit through search engines. According to iProspect, 85% of web users use search engines to find solutions and vendors. A properly executed search engine
optimization campaign can drive numerous, highly targeted visitors to your site, typically at a fraction of the cost of traditional advertising. Without high search engine rankings, you will only get visitors that find your web address through word of mouth, regular advertising, or other limited means.

2. Use content to get repeat visitors to your site, not flashiness.

Rich media, such as flashy graphics and audio, may impress your visitors the first time they see your site, but they are unlikely to come back for it (or recommend your site to others because of it).
If repeat visitors (meaning potential customers) are your goal, you are much more likely to get them to return if your site offers content that they find valuable (and with any luck, indispensable).
This helps to establish your company as an expert in your field while building a level of trust with your visitors.

3. Develop regular e-newsletters and announcements to inform and keep up to date with current and potential customers (but only those who ask for them).

A properly executed newsletter campaign can help your business retain existing customers and attract new ones. Routinely sending out informational content that your newsletter
subscribers find valuable is another excellent way to build a level of trust with them while continually establishing yourself as an expert in your product or service area. Over time, your recipients will be increasingly likely to recommend your products or services to others. A newsletter can also be used
to announce special promotions and sales. A recent Doubleclick survey of more than 1,000 Internet users found that more than 82 percent of them had made a purchase online during the past year
as a result of some sort of advertisement they received through email. The study revealed, however, that people were much more receptive to email from companies with whom they already had a relationship.

4. Make sure your existing marketing materials promote your online presence.

Make sure that all of your print advertising; business cards, letterhead, etc. display your web address. In addition, you should mention your website address on your phone message,
in the signature of the emails of everyone in your company, and in any radio or television advertising.
This simple step can drive a good deal of highly qualified prospects to your site for relatively little cost, but many companies are still using the same marketing materials that they used before
they had a website (and missing out on a great opportunity to build traffic).

5. Make sure your website content is focused on your customer's needs and interests, not your company.

A common mistake that companies make on the Internet is focusing their Internet marketing text too much upon themselves. Visitors are more interested in learning about how your
products or services can benefit them than about hearing about how wonderful you are or learning about the history of your company. Unlike other media, on the Internet you have very little time to communicate your company's unique selling proposition (USP). The most effective websites
are those that quickly answer the question "Why do I need this product/service?" Here's a quick test- does your Internet marketing copy use words like "we", "us", and "our" more often than words
like "you" and "your"? If so, your copy may be too self-centric. A change in focus would likely help you to better connect with your visitors.

Home is Sanctuary!

by Colleen Langenfeld
Copyright (c) 2003

Is your home a sanctuary? A genuine
port-in-the-storm kind of place?

Or does your home drain rather than re-charge
you?

Make your home the inviting oasis you want it
to be. Just remember these few easy steps:

- Orderliness.
Things don't need to be perfect, but they do
need to be fairly orderly. Chaos does not
promote peace!

- Beauty.
Now, I'm not talking about HOUSE BEAUTIFUL here,
although that's great if that's the way you like
it. There's a reason home decor is so popular; we
feel and perform better when we feather our nests!
Beauty and comfort are the keys, so pay particular
attention to color and clutter.

- Organization.
You need to be able to find what you're looking
for when you need it. Enough said.

- Inviting.
Hospitality is simply the art of making others feel
at home. Comfortable furnishings, soothing sights,
sounds and scents go a long way towards cultivating
a relaxing atmosphere in your own little corner of
the world.

- Relationships.
Let's get real: when people are constantly
bickering, there is no peace and no sanctuary.
Adults and children need a safe space where they
can be accepted, appreciated, and encouraged to grow.

Use this short list to test your household's appeal.
Discover the power of intentionally and creatively
designing a home life that can empower the members of
your family to give of their best each day and enjoy
the rewards of rejuvenating together each evening.

Free E-mail - Are You Using It Properly?

by: Ed Andrist

ParadigmWebDesign.net

Do you use a free E-mail service such as Hot mail? Likely you do. Nearly 95% of all people connected to the Internet do, including myself. And this is fine and good. I really don't have a problem with that. However......... You knew that was coming didn't you?

However, I do have a problem with those using free E-mail accounts for business purposes or as a catchall for spam and newsletter subscriptions. What I'm talking about is credibility here. Should I really place my trust in a business with an E-mail address like mybusiness@SomeFreeAccount.com? Oh com'on! Really! That doesn't ad one iota to my level of trust, nor does it add to your consumer's trust in you as a business.

Many of us marketers have found out the hard way that posting to FFA links and the like fills our In boxes up with spam, hence we have learned to use a free E-mail account for this form of advertising. That done, those accounts are basically forgotten as we pat ourselves on the back for getting our ads posted for free all without filling our regular In box up with spam.

This having worked so well, we now sign up for another free E-mail account just for business, leaving our real E-mail free for messages from friends and family. Well, think what you want, but I'm telling you this is just plain tacky! You see, our potential customers are not stupid. Never forget our customers are every bit as intelligent as you or I and with the mistrust of marketers on the Internet today, they will not respond positively to a throw-away E-mail address.

Consumers still stinging from last year's fiasco with the failed dot-coms and breaches of privacy issues, need to be reassured that you are honest and professional. Nothing helps to build consumer confidence more than a “real” E-mail address along with a physical address and phone number. If you're hiding behind a throw-away E-mail address, consumers are likely to wonder what else you're hiding.

But what I, as a publisher of a newsletter, find even more annoying are those who use a throw-away E-mail address when subscribing to newsletters. Perhaps they have received a free ad just for subscribing. Many newsletter publishers do offer free ads for their subscribers, but this will soon come to an end if people keep abusing this privilege.

Of course the reasoning for this is that they will benefit from the free ad and not have to pay the “price” of reading the E-zine. And once the throw-away E-mail In box is full, all further messages sent to that address are bounced. This type of behavior really burns me for several reasons. For one, it's not fair to the paying advertisers in the newsletter or E-zine and two it's not fair to the guest editorialists. And of course, it's not fair to the publishers either.

You see, most E-zine publishers work very hard to provide quality content each week or in some cases, each day. Part of the way we are compensated for our hard work is by paying advertisers. This is a win-win situation. The publisher gets paid for his or her hard work, the advertisers get their ad seen by many people at a substantially lower cost than other more traditional forms of advertising.

However, E-zine publishing isn't only about content, it's about numbers. Nobody is going to pay to advertise in an E-zine without a sizable subscriber database. Hence the need, sometimes, for free ads. It takes time to build up a large subscriber database with perhaps thousands of newsletters and E-zines vying for reader's attention.

Guest editorialists benefit from this system as well. Writing articles for an E-zine is perhaps the lowest cost advertising of all. But for this to be effective, their articles need to be read. I think I speak for the majority of writers when I say that they too, work very hard to provide quality content. Isn't it only fair then, that you read their articles? Who knows, you might actually learn something.

Throw-away E-mail subscriptions has become a problem for Web Sm@rts as well as other newsletter publications. Therefore, perhaps publishers need to verify all subscription requests from free E-mail services and also ask for a “real” address. This will ensure that our guest editorialists articles are actually read and that our advertisers ad is seen by the largest number of people possible. Bounced E-mails from throw-away accounts should be immediately un subscribed, no questions asked.

Creative Landscaping with Railroad Ties

Article by Jack Stone

Did you know that people are still using railroad ties for all sorts of decorative and functional purposes throughout their landscapes? You didn't? Well, where have you been? Railroad ties are used by landscape contractors as a main design component of landscaping both homes and businesses. The use of railroad ties make work easier for grounds maintenance.

Before we talk about all the great things you can do with railroad ties let's talk about how easy and inexpensive they are to use when compared to various brick and block structures. The nicest thing about railroad ties is the ease with which they can be used. It requires much less skill to construct a retaining wall of ties than one of block. For one thing you don't have to be overly concerned about perfectly straight lines. While railroad ties may cost as much as brick or block per square foot to purchase they cost only 1/4th the time in labor to install. Consider how much money that could save, especially if you have to subcontract out the brick or block work to a mason.

Creative uses of railroad ties are limited only by your imagination. They can be stacked horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. They can be staggered front to back or top to bottom. They can border lawns as a mowing strip or set off ground cover from gravel beds. They can be used as risers for stairs or as terraces on a slope.

How about a walkway or driveway? How about a fence? Stand them upright and spaced 3" to 6" apart. Or, stand them upright on a diagonal so that from one angle they appear to be a solid wall but from another afford a view. Cut them into 2 foot lengths and create a basket weave walkway. Why stop there? How about a jumbled collection of short sections stacked amongst some boulders or to frame a flower bed? Have a steep hill that's slowly washing away? Terrace it with a series of short retaining walls. Tired of the boring expanse of iceplant on a slope? Break it up with groupings of railroad ties.

Separate irrigation areas (i.e. lawns, flower beds, and trees). Stand one upright and stick a mail box on it or a concrete seagull! Better yet you can make some real nice walkway lights. Use railroad ties to define water effects like ponds or fountains. Ties can be integrated into waterscapes as well as landscapes.

Maintenance gardeners appreciate the use of railroad ties to divide lawn areas from the garden areas because of the durable nature of the tie. The use of ties around parking areas will protect your sprinklers from damage. Mowing and edging along ties is easy with a line trimmer and saves time on lawn maintenance.

If you have your own growing grounds for nusery plants then loose ties can be easily used for dividing areas and controlling invasive weeds.

All it takes to install railroad ties is a hammer, some chisels and gouges, and a heavy drill with a long sharp boring bit.

There! That should give you a few ideas. See? Railroad ties can be used for all sorts of things.

Railroad ties come in many different shapes, sizes and grades. These factors can be very important in determining the price of the ties. Not all railroad ties are the same. Some come rough cut and others are smooth and even-cornered. Some are pressure treated and creosoted while others are only creosoted. When ordering or selecting railroad ties measure their height, depth, and length to make sure that they meet your planned specifications. Nothing can be more frustrating then to have ties that are two inches shorter than you planned.

The creative use of railroad ties will enhance your landscapes, decrease your labor costs in grounds maintenance, and are easy to work with and install.

Think of using railroad ties on your next landscaping project.

Rampant Rudeness on the Internet: What Would "Miss Manners" Say?

by: Merle
MCPromotions.com

Give some people a computer and an Internet connection and they think it's a license for rudeness. What is it about the Internet that causes some folks to take all they learned about basic etiquette and throw it right out the window?

Think about it: Just because your reader can't see you doesn't give you the right to be rude, but there are millions of Net users who feel that it does. I've been called names I'd rather not repeat in polite company and have been replied to in ALL CAPS. I'm not deaf.... THERE'S REALLY NO NEED TO YELL.

I attribute this newfound sense of rudeness to the feeling of invisibility one gets while sitting behind the keyboard. I mean, would you really come up to me face to face and call me a "Jackass" when you can't read simple directions on how to unsubscribe yourself from my ezine? I think not.

In this new digital age it appears we've taken everyday common courtesy and thrown it right out the window. Whatever happened to "please" and "thank you?" My mother, who taught me as a child to call all adults 'Mr.' or 'Mrs.' would have cardiac arrest over the emails I receive on a daily basis.

Remember the "Golden Rule?" "Do unto others as you would want them to do unto you." Translation: before you call someone names, swear at them, report them to Spam Cop or do any other annoying gesture, stop and think. Maybe you did subscribe to that ezine and just don't remember. Try giving someone the benefit of the doubt before firing off an ugly email message that a real live breathing human being with feelings is going to read. Computers may not have feelings, but people do and there's a person behind every email address and/ or website.

Here are the 'Top 10 Do's and Don'ts' for online communication:

  • Don't reply to someone in all caps; it's equivalent to screaming at them.

  • If you receive a newsletter and can't figure out how to unsubscribe, before threatening to sue or reporting the publisher for Spam, politely ask the publisher to be removed. Any ezine publisher worth his salt will be happy to oblige. We really don't want to hold you captive.

  • Try to reply to all of your email messages within 48 hours. If not, many people get annoyed and will think you're avoiding them.

  • If you publish an ezine make sure you place subscribe and unsubscribe instructions at the bottom of every issue.

  • Don't use foul language in an email; that will get you nowhere. If you're upset about something, please state the problem clearly along with how you'd like to see the issue can be resolved.

  • If you visit a website and it's not to your liking, don't fire off a nasty email stating what a loser the site owner must be. Remember what your Mom use to say "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all."

  • Make sure every page of your website contains an email address to contact you. Please don't make me fill out a long form just to ask you a simple question.

  • When replying to an email, keep the original message intact so the person you're replying to knows what you're talking about. Personally I receive over 300 messages a day, so I need to see your message in context -- otherwise, I may not understand it.

  • If you buy or sell products/services online, make sure you're using an online payment service like PayPal.com in order to move money around quickly. Don't make snail mail your only payment option.

  • Pay your bills in a timely fashion. If you owe someone money online don't make them send out 10 emails telling you your payment is overdue. Pay promptly.

So there you have it; my Top 10 rules for being more polite and less rude online. If you incorporate these tips into your daily Internet dealings you'll find the Net a little warmer and a friendlier place to be.

There's enough road rage in the world, so when traveling the information highway please remember that we're all human. Your computer is just a tool used to communicate with others. Please be KIND to them!

Title: Personal Finance 101
Part 1 of 4
Author: David Berky

The subject of personal finance is very broad, but as a beginning, I would like to discuss what I consider the foundations of personal finance: Security, Stability, Growth and Protection & Management.

Security

Security to me means that I am prepared for the "hit by a bus" scenario.

I have life insurance to provide for my wife and children. Health, disability, auto and home insurance policies also provide me additional protection in their respective areas. I also have a list of where these policies are, who my agents are, phone numbers and basic policy information (#s, amounts, costs, etc.) I keep this information both in a file at my house and in a safety deposit box at the bank (a friends home will also work - think: "house burns down" scenario). Also my wife and my brother and sister-in-law who live nearby also know where these things are.

I also try to maintain an emergency fund of cash in a bank account or money market account (with checks) so that I am prepared for a financial disaster, layoff, or natural disaster. It took several years to build up this cash fund. I started with a goal to have enough cash for 6 months of my normal financial needs (mortgage, food, insurance, transportation, etc.). Now I am trying for 12 months' worth. I do this by saving a little each month, and "investing" a portion of all "found" money (gifts, inheritances, tax returns, anything unexpected).

I have a will and update it each year around New Year's to reflect any changes in my life during the past year (new children, new home or business, etc.). Most people don't need an extensive will, the forms you buy at your office supply store will do. But in some states if you die without one, watch out. What happens to your money and even your children could be entirely up to some state or court appointed official.

Salmonella in You and Your Pets

Ronald S. Hines DVM PhD 5/27/03

mailto:second.chance2@verizon.net

Salmonella are a group of bacteria that inhabit the intestinal tract of a large number of animals. In 1885 Daniel E. Salmon discovered them. When conditions are right, these bacteria can cause severe disease leading to food poisoning or death. There are about twenty species of salmonella and 2,300 serotypes. All can cause disease. In a normal intestine of a healthy animal, a multitude of “friendly” bacteria and yeast keep the number of salmonella and other “bad” bacteria at a constant low level. Too low a level to cause disease. If however, the animal is stressed or exposed to massive numbers of ‘bad” bacteria, the bacteria begin to produce toxic products and migrates into the blood stream causing a condition called septicemia or blood poisoning

People are rather resistant to Salmonellosis. When we develop a case of it, it usually causes, chills, malaise, diarrhea and cramps. Dogs, horses, pigs and reptiles are also quite resistant to salmonella. A typical source of salmonella poisoning in people is the salad bar of fast food restaurants or the consumption of chicken that is under cooked. Salmonella is a tough organism that can live for several months at freezer temperatures. Because the organism colonizes the intestine, any case of the disease implies that fecal material was spread on improperly washed hands or utensils.

Salmonella is particularly severe in young, debilitated or stressed animals. In birds, a common source is Salmonella typhimurium from rodent droppings. Many mice and rats carry salmonella for years but appear healthy. When they contaminate the feed of parrots or chickens, sudden death occurs. A few of the sick birds recover and become chronic carriers themselves. Initially, animals with Salmonellosis run high fevers (105 – 107F). They quickly become depressed and dehydrated and die in a matter of hours. Often, the disease progresses so rapidly that antibiotics are not effective. Once the organism is present in a flock or herd, it is virtually impossible to get it out – short of depopulating the entire herd or flock. This is because despite vigorous antibiotic therapy, a few chronically infected animals will remain to spread the disease. . These carrier animals shed the organism only intermittently. The most famous salmonella carrier was Typhoid Mary Malone. From 1900 to 1907 she cheerily prepared wedding feasts in New York City, which were responsible for the sickness of Forty-seven guests and the deaths of three. She was a good cook and her services were in demand.

Within the last fifteen years it has become evident that virtually all reptiles carry salmonella in their intestines. A common salmonella carried by turtles, iguanas and snakes is Salmonella arizonae. Despite the popularity of pet reptiles, it is surprising how few human cases of this disease have been traced back to reptiles. A disturbing development is that many strains of salmonella have become resistant to the chloramphenicol, nitrofurans, ampicillin and fluroquinolone antibiotics formerly used to treat them.

Some things you can do to prevent Salmonellosis:
  1. Prevent rodent contamination of food ingredients

  2. Avoid introducing new animals into a herd or flock. The farmer’s axiom “all in – all out” prevents the introduction of disease. When you do set up a new flock or herd, choose animals from a certified salmonella-free source.

  3. Heat all food ingredients to a minimum of 185 F. This temperature kills salmonella.

  4. Avoid sharing utensils between animals. Soaking utensils in a solution of one part household bleach and twenty parts water will kill salmonella provided that heavy organic soiling is not present (pre-wash the utensils).

  5. Do not feed raw eggs or meat. Avoid “triple D” meats and rendering house products

  6. Wash your hands frequently between handling animals or animal products

  7. Young infants, the elderly and infirm, immune suppressed persons undergoing chemotherapy and persons with autoimmune disease are most susceptible to Salmonellosis. It can be fatal in these individuals. It is in these individuals that the organism is most likely to gain access to the blood stream and possible persist in sites of the body distant from the intestine, such as in lymph nodes or bone marrow.

  8. The incubation period for Salmonellosis is quite rapid, 6-72 hours.

  9. Don’t use wooden cutting boards. Use Teflon cutting boards.

  10. Keep all meats and eggs chilled until use.

Salmonella, stress and poor husbandry all go together. When husbandry and nutrition are good, most animals that are exposed to salmonella show no signs of disease.

HEALTH TIPS

B As Happy As A B!
(c) By Lena Sanchez

A simple little supplement that has such huge ramifications if
your body is devoid of sufficient amounts!

Having suffered from motion sickness for my entire life I was
not anticipating a trip across the ocean, even a short
distance to Catalina Island by boat. Especially since all I had
to do was walk out on a pier and look down through the
boardwalk to become nauseous even to the point of vomiting
every time...  I mentioned this to one of my employees as I
lamented about knowing I would ruin the day with my motion
sickness. She then told me how she combats motion sickness,
one each of B1, B6 & B Complex vitamins taken a couple
of hours before departing and for good measure, the night
before as well... So my husband and I took them the night before
and again before we left to go to Long Beach to get on the boat.
Lo and behold, it worked. Had a great trip without an inkling of
motion sickness, in fact a lot of others were very ill on the return
ride back, due to a rough seas, but not my husband or I.

I must have been born B deficient, or at least it seemed that
way, since my childhood was spent with motion sickness
in my fathers wandering travels across country.

I now  no longer experience motion sickness as I take daily
supplemental vitamins and minerals!

My older daughter had always suffered with canker sores on
her mouth and with my study into B vitamins discovered that
was a common symptom of B deficiency... Now she is free
of canker sores!

I soon found a lot of other symptoms that point to a B
vitamin deficiency.

A common classical symptom of B complex deficiency is,
depression and the tendency to cry without any particular
reason, mostly seen in women, is also said to let you know
that you are dangerously lacking in B vitamins and/or a
multitude of minerals and trace minerals.

Research conducted at Tufts suggests that blood levels of
various B vitamins that fall at the lower end of the "normal"
range can interfere with mental dexterity. A severe
deficiency does not have to be present for memory
impairment to occur. Taking B vitamins particularly B-12,
B-6, folic acid, biotin and niacin may reverse memory
problems, according to the study.

The participants in the study were given 10 times the RDA
of B vitamins for more than a year and those taking the B
vitamins demonstrated significant improvements in memory.

A vitamin B complex deficiency puts a tremendous level of
stress on the adrenal glands and often those deficient in
the B's will also need adrenal support. Lying down and
resting for five minutes, taking your blood pressure, then
standing immediately and taking the blood pressure again
is a good way to assess low adrenal function. The higher
number of the blood pressure measurement should read at
least ten points greater upon standing, than it was when
lying down. If your blood pressure is not 10 points greater or
if it goes down when you stand up, reduced adrenal function
is suspect. The degree of hypoadrenalism is often
proportionate to the degree the blood pressure drops
(Balch, 1997: 91, 92).

In "Vitamin B Complex in Human Nutrition," Judith DeCava,
Ph.D lists many other possible symptoms of a B complex
deficiency are:

mild to severe depression - forgetfulness - vague fears -
uneasiness to panic - mood swings - rage - morbid
thoughts - hostility - restlessness - apprehension - constant
feeling that something dreadful is going to happen -
suspicions - instability -anxiety -mental confusion - noise
sensitivity - inability to handle stress - hearing noises, voices,
etc. - loss of ability to concentrate - impaired intellect - loss of
memory - nervousness -  weakness - fatigue - lightheadedness
or dizziness - digestive problems - hypochlorhydria (insufficient
stomach acid production) - constipation or diarrhea - stomach
pains - decreased or increased appetite - craving for sweets -
heart palpitations - chest pains - neuralgia to neuritis -
muscular soreness - pain, tingling or achiness - cold hands and
feet - heightened sensitivity to touch and/or pain - menstrual
complaints - soreness of the mouth - dermatitis - acne - burning
or itching eyes - difficulty swallowing - sore throat -
hypochondria - headaches - insomnia or sleep disturbances.

So the question of "To B or Not To B" should point the way
"To B" if you have any of the symptoms noted above... It's
cheaper than going through a battery of tests that the doctor
will or should order and fail to detect a B deficiency... If after
faithfully taking Minerals and B-Complex vitamins for a few
weeks and the symptoms persist then see your doctor!
